Mom Hack Requesting Medicine Flavor✨

When it comes to medicine especially Amoxicillin, I feel like I am pro at it now. My son has had 5 ear infections now (we are getting tubes in next month) and have had Amoxicillin each time. My son only likes the bubble flavor, we had tired other flavors and he hates them

I found out that you can request the flavor of medicine if it comes in a flavor. I also request bubble gum as it is sweeter then the rest. Our pharmacy will always change it for us when I pick it up.

**NOTE: there could be a charge for this**

As a first time mom I didn't know you could do this.

And it would of helped us when my son would fight taking his medicine

I hope this mom hack helps you!

... Read moreAs a parent, I know the struggle of getting a sick child to take their medication. It's truly heartbreaking to see them refuse, especially when you know it's for their own good. My own experience with Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium oral suspension for my son's frequent ear infections taught me so much. I wish I had known sooner that you can often request specific flavors at the pharmacy! For us, bubblegum flavor was a lifesaver. He absolutely hated the original taste, and every dose was a battle. But once we started getting it flavored, it became so much easier. Many pharmacies offer this service, and it's worth asking about. Don't be shy – just inquire at the drop-off or pick-up window if they can add a flavor like banana, grape, cherry, or, of course, bubblegum, which is often a big hit with little ones. Sometimes there's a small charge, but for the peace of mind and the ease of getting your child well, it's often worth every penny. Speaking of 'oral suspension,' you might wonder what that even means! Basically, it's a liquid medicine where the ingredients aren't fully dissolved but are evenly dispersed. This makes it easier for babies and toddlers to swallow compared to pills. Amoxicillin often comes combined with Clavulanate Potassium (which is what 'clav mom' might refer to), a component that helps the antibiotic work even better against certain bacteria. Knowing this can help you understand why your little one might be prescribed this specific type of medicine. Always check the Amoxicillin Clavulanate bottle label for specific dosage instructions and storage information. Some parents also wonder about how to flavor Amoxicillin at home. While the pharmacy flavoring is usually the safest and most effective, if you're considering adding something yourself, it's crucial to talk to your pediatrician or pharmacist first. They can advise on what might be safe and what could potentially interfere with the medication's effectiveness or absorption. Generally, it's best to avoid mixing medicine into large amounts of food or drink, as your child might not consume the full dose. Small amounts of juice, applesauce, or yogurt might be okay, but professional guidance is key here. Beyond flavor, making medicine time less stressful involves other tricks too. Try making it a routine, offering a small reward afterward (like a sticker or a favorite song), or even practicing with a play syringe. Positive reinforcement goes a long way! Remember, you're not alone in these struggles, and every little tip, like requesting a medicine flavor, can make a huge difference in your parenting journey. It's all about finding what works best for your unique child and situation.
