Fire Department to the rescue 🌸

cause why my 3 year old raised my blood pressure like this for. He locked himself in the room and stated to panic when he couldn’t get the door to unlock. The door knob lock sometime sticks, so it will be hard for him to unlock the door after it's locked. My oldest son is at school, so he is not strong enough to turn the lock back after it sticks, so I tried to take the knob off the door, but that didn't work. After I called 911, the fire department came to the rescue.

... Read moreIt’s a common parental nightmare: your toddler accidentally locks themselves inside a room and starts to panic, leaving you scrambling for a quick solution. Many residential door knob locks can stick or jam, especially if they are older or not well-maintained, making it difficult even for adults to unlock them. In this case, the door knob lock’s tendency to stick prevented the parent and older sibling from opening the door. When faced with such an emergency, the first step is to remain calm and try not to escalate the child’s anxiety. Attempt basic techniques such as gently turning the knob back and forth or using a flathead screwdriver to remove the knob if possible, but avoid forcing it as this can cause damage or worsen the situation. If these methods fail, calling emergency services like 911 is the safest option. Firefighters are trained to handle lockouts and can quickly and safely unlock doors without causing harm to the child or damaging the property. Their prompt response can alleviate tension and prevent potential harm caused by panic or distress. To prevent similar situations in the future, consider installing child safety locks that are less prone to sticking, or door knobs with lock covers to prevent toddlers from locking themselves in. Regular door maintenance, including lubrication of locks, can ensure smoother operation. Teaching children about the risks and proper use of locks as they grow can also reduce accidental lock-ins. Ultimately, this experience underlines how important it is to stay prepared and know when to call for professional help. Fire departments are a vital resource in family emergencies beyond just fires and should be appreciated for their quick, skilled assistance in situations like this.
