Gardening is therapeutic
As a diabetic I struggle finding ways to eat healthy but not anymore. With diet and exercise I have lost a total of 30lbs and trying my best to meet my goal weight and lower my A1C levels.
I went from 13.5 to 8 in 7 months and having my own garden has helped me fall in love with more enriched foods and what better way than to adopt the from garden to table routine.
Take a sneak peak at my little slice of heaven in my backyard.
This year I’m growing
Cucumber
Several variety of tomatoes
Beans
Eggplant
Kale
Peppers
Strawberries
Blueberry
Raspberry
Herbs- cilantro, Thai basil, Italian basil, English thyme, rosemary
And some flowers to add color.

Gardening not only enhances your diet but also promotes emotional well-being. Engaging in this therapeutic hobby can reduce stress, improve your mood, and strengthen your physical health. Research shows that gardening can lower blood pressure, alleviate anxiety, and encourage a sense of accomplishment through nourishing your body with home-grown produce. As I cultivate vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, and kale, along with fruits such as strawberries and blueberries, I’ve learned to appreciate the flavor and nutrition that fresh ingredients provide. Adopting a 'farm-to-table' approach has made me more mindful of my eating habits, and by incorporating herbs like cilantro and rosemary into my dishes, I've amplified the taste while reducing reliance on processed foods. Additionally, planting flowers not only beautifies your space but attracts beneficial insects that pollinate your plants, enhancing your gardening success. For those interested in starting your gardening journey, it's essential to begin small, choosing easy-to-grow plants that suit your climate and lifestyle. Online communities and forums, such as #gardeningforbeginners, can provide support and tips. Remember, gardening is a continuous learning experience, offering valuable lessons on patience and nurturing, both in your garden and in your life.
