How I’m preparing my child for school 📚✨
I know every child learns differently, but this is what’s been working for us and helping me feel confident that he’ll walk into school prepared and supported.
• Researching kindergarten readiness
I started by watching videos and reading about kindergarten readiness so I had a general guideline of what kids are expected to know in reading, math, writing, and social skills. Not to rush him, but to understand where he should be and how I can support him.
• Educational videos + learning apps
On his tablet, I lean toward educational videos and apps like ABCmouse. It keeps learning fun while still reinforcing letters, numbers, phonics, and basic problem-solving.
• Printable worksheets
I make some worksheets myself and also find printable ones online. This helps him practice tracing, writing, counting, and simple math in a hands-on way instead of only on a screen.
• Buying school books a grade ahead
I order school workbooks from Amazon one grade ahead so I can introduce concepts early and at his pace. We sit down together and work through them slowly, making sure he actually understands instead of just memorizing.
• Intentional sit-down learning time
We have dedicated moments where we sit together and learn. No pressure, no rushing. Just focused time where he can ask questions and feel confident.
• Organization
I keep all of his printed worksheets in a folder and grade them like any other teacher would. I leave notes on what he’s excelling in and where he needs a little extra help.
For his workbooks, I tear the pages out in sections, staple them into small packets, and grade those the same way. It helps me track progress and adjust what we focus on next.
This isn’t about pushing him. It’s about giving him a strong foundation, building confidence, and making sure he feels ready when school starts 🤍
