Finding Delight in God's Word
Psalm 119:15-16 (NLT) says, "I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word."
These verses offer a powerful glimpse into a heart devoted to God. It's not a passive acceptance, but an active engagement with His Word. The psalmist commits to study God's commandments, diligently seeking to understand their meaning and application. This isn't just a quick glance, but a deep dive into the wisdom and guidance offered. Alongside study comes reflection, a deliberate pondering of God's ways. This involves considering His character, His actions, and the path He has laid out for us.
But this pursuit isn't meant to be a dry, intellectual exercise. The psalmist declares, "I will delight in your decrees." There's a joy, a profound pleasure, to be found in God's instructions. It speaks of a heart that recognizes the goodness and the life-giving nature of His Word. This delight fuels the final commitment: "I will not forget your word." When we truly find joy in God's decrees, they become ingrained in our hearts and minds, less likely to fade with time or the pressures of life.
In our own lives, let us strive for this same active and joyful engagement with Scripture. May we commit to studying His commands, reflecting on His ways, and cultivating a deep delight in His decrees, so that His Word becomes a constant guide and a lasting treasure in our hearts.
