During transitions, accessions and changing timelines, sometimes it requires us to first let go. The letting go could be of a person, place, thing, or even a behavior. It is human nature to want to grasp on to what is known, comfortable and predictable. It is human nature to not want to change.
However, sometimes the greatest strength is shown when we walk away or let go. For instance when we find ourselves in a toxic relationship (at work, within a friendship, a romantic relationship, etc.) it is not always easy to walk away. Often there is a co-dependency that has developed. But even if we do break free from those dynamics, unless they heal what was damaged deep within us (from that toxic environment), we will carry it into the future relationships with others. Sometimes we take on the very characteristics that we fled from. Sometimes we cocoon up and just never let anybody in ever again. Yet other times it can play out in even more subtle (yet equally profound) ways like having difficulties trusting others. Until one let's go of all of the layers, they will be weighted down like they have a albatross permanently fixed to their neck.
Change is not always easy, especially when we do everything that we possibly can (avoid, run from, fill with time overdoing with temporary pleasures so we don't have to face, etc.) to prevent it from happening. Equally as such we can have an equally polarizing effect with letting go. Yet, once on the other side we realize that change in letting go was not a punishment for us, it was the key to our freedom. After all, if all of our space was filled with outdated, cumbersome, sometimes debilitating baggage, there will be no room for what is meant to find us.
