To my cat I promise..
I got Jiji on May 23rd, 2016.
He was my little duffle bag kitten. I had just moved to michigan and needed a friend. My heart wanted a cat, and I knew I wanted to rescue one.
That day, I met a woman at the rescue with a duffle bag in the front office. She was bent over it while talking to the receptionist. I was young and curious, so I asked what they were talking about and was told it was filled with kittens. 4 week or younger babies that had been born under a families shed, the woman had been making sure they were okay and until the last week the momma cat had disappeared so the woman was bringing the babies to a safer place.
Having a feeling of fate as it was just such a coincidence that I was looking for a kitten the same day and time that this woman arrived right before placing them in the shelter, I softly asked if I could have one. The woman smiled and looked at the receptionist, and she shrugged, telling us they hadn't yet been processed into the system and to take a pick.
My heart fluttered, and she opened the dufflebag where I was greated by a litter of crying kittens. All were a little different from the other, some orange others white, even a calico, but that's when I saw my soul in the eyes of a void in the bag. A little black fluff ball with big blue eyes, and I knew he was the one.
Gently scooping him out from the bag I held him, he was so tiny, he could curl up into a ball in my hand. I was in love, holding him close to my heart he immediately began to purr, and I thanked them and left.
Since that day, I have had a little void baby. While he may not be that tiny puff ball anymore, he is now a total goober ball with a personality of a real-life toddler. Still full of life and enjoying his late night zoomies, he is my heart and soul, and I love him with my entire being. He was my first true family member, and he will always be my baby Jiji.
