What Do You Fear? Share Your Thoughts

Vulnerability

🤍 My Story: Honestly my biggest fear has always been failing and dying without having fulfilled the purpose God has given me. As far as my purpose goes I still don’t know what it is and it is something I pray about often. I could already be walking in my purpose and not know it. I love helping people but I don’t if that’s my sole purpose. For the fear of failing that actually stems from being told at a young age I would be a statistic. Yeah (ouch) I was told this in 9th grade by an older white woman who was the dean at my high school Ms. Scogna. Boy was she wrong. It the lesson of being careful what we speak into peoples lives especially children. Instead of her encouraging me to do better she instead tore me down. Words are heavy and they have the power to either hurt or heal. Those words have stuck with me and I always feel I have something to prove and hate failing at anything. I am not a statistic, I am very intelligent and educated. I choose not to let the things people say get to me in ways that I would carry their words forever it is too much of a weight. People may forget what you’ve done for them but I guarantee they will never forget what you said.

🤍 How I Felt: Inadequate, uninspired, doubtful

🤍 My Takeaways: •I am not the words someone spoke over me. I am who and what God says I am.

• I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself.

• I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

... Read moreAfter sharing my deepest fear of not fulfilling my purpose, I realized how many other anxieties intertwine with that core struggle. We often talk about big fears like failure, but what about the quieter, persistent feelings that chip away at our sense of self? I’ve found that feelings like prolonged boredom, anxieties about financial stability, or even that profound sense of saudade can all stem from the same place – a feeling of not living fully, or not being connected to our true power. I used to experience moments of profound boredom, a restless emptiness that made me feel uninspired and stagnant. It wasn't just having nothing to do; it was a deeper sense that what I was doing wasn't leading me anywhere meaningful. I learned that combating boredom isn't about constant entertainment, but about actively seeking out small ways to engage my mind and spirit. Whether it's learning a new skill, diving into a forgotten hobby, or just spending time in nature, these small acts became my antidote. They help me feel more in tune with myself and less like I’m just passing time, directly contributing to my sense of purpose. Then there's the pervasive worry about financial stability, which is a huge fear for so many of us, myself included. While my article's original focus was on overcoming the label of being "a statistic," the fear of not achieving financial security often goes hand-in-hand with that feeling of inadequacy. It's easy to get caught up in the stress of making ends meet, but I've realized that pursuing my purpose doesn't always look like a direct path to wealth. Sometimes, it's about building skills, creating value, and finding work that aligns with my passions, which often leads to financial stability as a happy byproduct. It's about having peace of mind, knowing I'm doing my best, and trusting that the path will unfold. This mindset shift has been transformative, easing the constant pressure and allowing me to focus on what truly matters. And that elusive feeling of saudade – a melancholic longing for something absent, something that once was, or something that might never be. While my main fear was about the future (not fulfilling purpose), I've also felt that ache for what could have been, or for connections that have faded. It's a beautiful, yet painful emotion that reminds us of the depth of our experiences and desires. Instead of letting it overwhelm me, I’ve learned to acknowledge it as part of my journey. It's a reminder of what I value, what I miss, and what I still aspire to create. As the Marianne Williamson quote from one of my images wisely puts it, 'Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful.' Embracing these feelings, even the difficult ones, is part of stepping into that power. It’s about not letting the fear of what’s missing, or the fear of not being enough, stop you from shining your own light and pursuing your unique path. What is your biggest fear in life? It might just be the key to unlocking your greatest strength.
