The 'errand date,' for example, is a brilliant way to observe someone’s natural tendencies without the gloss of romance. I once went for a simple grocery run with someone new, and watching how they treated strangers and handled small frustrations gave me more insight than a fancy dinner ever could. The 'rained-out date' is another favorite of mine because it tests flexibility and patience. When plans fall apart, the way someone reacts speaks volumes about their character and emotional resilience. It’s a real green flag when a partner can gracefully adapt rather than sulk or get upset. Cooking together has always been revealing for me. Sharing a kitchen is a microcosm of life — cooperation, communication, and occasional messes test how well two people sync. I found that those who showed interest in the process and respected my cooking style, even if different, brought a harmony that extended beyond the kitchen. The phones-down date made me realize how important presence is in a relationship. It’s easy to avoid awkwardness with distractions, but being genuinely content with silence or low stimulation shows comfort and trust. I recall a few evenings where the simplicity of just being together, without screens, deepened my connection with a date significantly. Letting someone lead the planning can reveal their level of investment. When my date took full control, from start to finish, and still considered my preferences, it was reassuring. It demonstrated effort and thoughtfulness, qualities I highly value. Lastly, the road-trip date is a true test of compatibility. Hours confined together with just conversation, music, and silence can either bring people closer or highlight differences. During a recent trip, I noted how the ease of our interactions in the car translated to overall relationship comfort. Ultimately, chemistry is alluring but unstable. These 'unglamorous' dates—focusing on authenticity, patience, and mutual respect—offer a clearer window into long-term potential. I encourage anyone dating to embrace these real-life moments as they build a foundation grounded in reality rather than fleeting sparks.

Another situation I make mandatory before going into a committed relationship with someone, is I HAVE to see how they are when I’m sick… Can they handle seeing me looking all terrible and STILL wanna be with me? I have also thrown in days like- no makeup, or me in a bathing suit- and how about me in the shower?
