Its Almost Garden Time
The Days and Nights are getting warmer 🌞
Every window and shelf has seedlings 🌱
Countless hours planning, prepping, and picturing the perfect layout ✨️
Its so close you can literally smell the tomatoes 🍅
Tomatoes 🍅 are a huge chunk of our garden. We can them, making salsa, sauces, and soups, add them to salads, and let's not forget the favorite Tomato Sandwich 🥪
We usually grow a few varieties. The tried and true staples..Roma, Early Girls, and Beef Steak ❤️
The fan favorites (aka the kids favorite).. Any Cherry variety, Sunny Boy, and Brandywine 🥰
The random ones I get on sale or fun ones I want to try(it maybe an addiction at this point)..This year is Cherokee Purple 😍
Stay tuned to see if it makes it on the fan favorite list..📜
Meanwhile I'll be dreaming of a Tomato Sandwich 🥪
As someone who eagerly awaits the gardening season every year, I find that properly planning and prepping my garden space makes all the difference in achieving a bountiful harvest. Like many gardeners, tomatoes hold a special place in my garden. I also experiment with different varieties, including heirlooms similar to the Cherokee Purple mentioned, which truly adds diversity to the taste and the garden experience. One tip I’ve learned is to start seedlings indoors a few weeks before the last frost, which ensures they are healthy and strong by the time you transplant them outside. Watching seedlings thrive on my windowsills under grow lights is one of the most rewarding parts of early spring gardening. It’s also the perfect time to visualize and map out the garden layout, planning companion plants to support the tomatoes and maximize space and yields. When it comes to tomato varieties, I always include reliable staples like Roma and Beef Steak because they’re versatile for cooking and fresh eating. Cherry tomatoes are a hit with kids for their sweetness and snackability, similar to the fan favorites shared here. Trying something new every year, like the Cherokee Purple, keeps gardening exciting with the chance to discover unique flavors and colors. Preserving the harvest by canning tomatoes for sauces, salsa, and soups is something I started years ago and highly recommend. Fresh tomatoes are wonderful, but having homemade salsa or sauce ready in the pantry brings a taste of summer all year long. And of course, no tomato garden experience is complete without indulging in a homemade tomato sandwich—simple but packed with fresh, garden-grown flavor. Gardening is as much about the sensory pleasures—the smell of tomatoes ripening, the warmth of the sun, and the satisfaction of growth—as it is about the practical outcomes. This season, whether you're an experienced gardener or trying it for the first time, embracing variety and planning well will make your garden a true joy.
