In Des Moines, Iowa, the summer wind often adds a refreshing chill, perfect for enjoying simple outdoor moments like tailgating and spending time with friends before the busy days begin again. During these moments, I like to reflect on the extended break we've had—an opportunity to recharge and prepare mentally for supporting students in the months ahead. The slow pace of summer allows me to plan new programs and strategies to assist students better, especially as the school library becomes a hub for student resources and support. I’ve found that savoring these quiet mornings helps me reset and stay energized for the challenges ahead. Tailgating with colleagues and friends adds a joyful social aspect that balances the work with community connection. It’s also a reminder that while the academic year involves many responsibilities, it’s equally important to find moments of relaxation and fun. Looking forward, I’m excited about the opportunities to engage with students, providing guidance and assistance during their school journey. These last days of summer are truly a time to appreciate the present before diving back into the important role of a school counselor.
