*butterfly pea matcha latte*
I do have to say, this matcha latte is not only pretty but very delicious and packed full of powerful antioxidants.
I wasn’t sure about trying this one as I was unsure how it would taste!
*Ingredients:
~ 1 teaspoon of Butterfly pea flower powder (blue matcha powder)
~¼ cup cold water
~ water
~1-3 teaspoons of-liquid sweetener (maple syrup or
simple syrup vegan honey)
~ice (as much as you want)
~ ¾ cup milk (you can use any milk but with this drink I prefer oat milk for the creamiest texture and it’s healthier too) you can also use soy for a more plant-based protein.
for a different flavor and color….
*for purple latte:
~ 1 teaspoon lemon juice before adding sweetener. Watch the color change from blue to purple!
*Instructions*
~Sift the butterfly pea powder into a small jar with an airtight lid.
~Add the cold water to the jar, shake the jar for about 30 seconds until no powder remains.
~Add liquid sweetener and shake the jar a few more times until the sweetener is well-combined with the cold-brewed butterfly pea tea.
~Slowly pour the blue matcha tea into a tall (16-ounce) glass.
~Add your ice to your liking or fill the glass.
~Slowly pour the milk onto the ice cubes, being careful to preserve the matcha layer if you want a layered effect.
~Stir and enjoy!

Okay, so you've seen how absolutely gorgeous this butterfly pea matcha latte is, right? But let's dive a little deeper into why this vibrant blue drink isn't just a pretty face – it's actually super versatile and has some cool secrets! First off, for those wondering about 'blue matcha,' it's important to know that butterfly pea powder isn't actually matcha (which is finely ground green tea). It's made from the dried flowers of the Clitoria ternatea plant, giving it that incredible natural blue hue. Beyond just looking stunning, these flowers are traditionally known for their powerful antioxidants, and some studies even suggest they might have anti-inflammatory properties and support cognitive function. So, you're not just sipping on beauty, you're getting a little boost too! Want to master that beautiful layered effect, like the ones you see with the 'blue cloud latte' or "frappe azul" vibes? The key is temperature and density. Make sure your butterfly pea tea is cold, and when you pour your milk, do it slowly over ice cubes. The ice acts as a barrier, helping the milk float on top of the denser, sweetened butterfly pea tea. Oat milk, as mentioned in the main recipe, is fantastic for this because its creaminess helps create a distinct layer. If you want a really dramatic separation, you can even slightly warm your milk before pouring – it makes it less dense than the cold tea. Now, let's talk variations! If you're a fan of 'butterfly pea cold brew,' you can easily adapt this recipe. Instead of just ¼ cup of cold water, you can make a larger batch of concentrated butterfly pea tea by steeping a teaspoon of blue powder in about a cup of cold water overnight in the fridge. Then, just use this concentrate as your base, add sweetener, ice, and milk. Voila – an instant blue cold brew! Ever wanted to try a 'frappe azul' or 'blue cloud latte' that's more like a blended treat? Simply combine your prepared butterfly pea tea base with your preferred milk, sweetener, and a generous amount of ice in a blender. Blend until smooth and frosty for a refreshing, icy blue delight. You can even add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra decadent 'blue cloud' experience! And that magical 'butterfly pea tea color change'? It's science in action! The anthocyanins (the plant pigments) in butterfly pea flower are pH-sensitive. When you add something acidic, like lemon juice – as suggested for a purple latte – the pH drops, and the blue changes to purple or even pink. Try experimenting with a tiny splash of lime juice or even a berry puree for different vibrant hues! It's such a fun party trick. Finally, don't be afraid to customize your sweetness. While maple syrup and simple syrup are great, you could also try agave nectar or even a date syrup for a different flavor profile. For milk, while oat milk is a personal favorite for its creaminess and health benefits, coconut milk can add a subtle tropical note, and almond milk keeps it light. Just play around until you find your perfect 'butterfly pea powder latte' combo! Enjoy your delicious and Instagram-worthy creation!
