What you Should Ask in an Accounting Interview

When I was interviewing for my first accounting job, I remember feeling so nervous — I wanted to make a good impression but had no idea what questions to ask. Looking back, I wish I had thought more intentionally about the things that actually mattered to me.

One question I wish I had asked is what the typical work schedule looks like — in-person, hybrid, or remote. At the time, I didn’t realize how much having some flexibility would impact my happiness at work.

I also wish I had asked what a typical week looks like for someone in the role. During my first few months, I was surprised by how different each day could be, and I think understanding that early on would have helped me feel more prepared.

Finally, I wish I had asked what skills were most important for success. If I’d known then what I know now, I would have spent more time developing those before starting.

Interviews can be intimidating, but asking the right questions can really change how confident and capable you come across.

What’s one question you always ask in an interview?
