Can the sun really make a difference in your energy levels? For me it has - and it took me 49 years to realize how to use the sun as part of my wellness journey.
Movin’ thru the ‘pause (perimenopause) and stress had my cortisol rhythm completely out of sync. I knew something wasn’t right when I was struggling to wake up in the mornings, having mid-afternoon crashes, and again struggling to get to sleep at night even though I was exhausted.
Three months ago I decided to take a different approach to balance and tried what I call “sunlight syncing”
✨ What I do:
1️⃣ Go to bed earlier to let cortisol peak naturally in the morning for sustained energy.
2️⃣ Avoid blue light after sunset to prevent cortisol spikes that disrupt sleep - blue blockers make this a breeze to do - even during my doom scrolling before bed.
3️⃣ Get 10-15 minutes of sunlight when the sun comes up to set my body’s natural rhythm for the day.
The result? I wake up refreshed, stay energized all day, and fall asleep easier at night. It’s amazing how that works.
Your body already has the tools—it just needs the right cues. Try syncing with the sun for a week and let me know how you feel! 🌞
... Read moreSunlight syncing is gaining attention as a natural way to enhance energy levels and improve overall well-being, especially for those experiencing perimenopause or stress-related fatigue. Research indicates that sunlight exposure in the morning can help regulate circadian rhythms, leading to improved sleep quality and increased alertness throughout the day. Incorporating short bursts of sunlight early in the day prompts the body to produce serotonin, a hormone that boosts mood and energy.
To maximize the benefits of sunlight syncing, consider adopting a consistent daily routine. Gradually waking up earlier can allow your body to rise with the sun, aligning your internal clock with natural daylight. Additionally, try to incorporate physical activities, like stretching or a brisk walk, during your morning sunlight exposure. This not only elevates your energy levels but can also promote better cardiovascular health.
It's important to limit exposure to blue light from screens in the evening as this can interfere with melatonin production, the hormone responsible for sleep. Instead, consider activities that promote relaxation, such as reading or meditating. Remember, the goal of sunlight syncing is to create a harmonious balance between your body's natural rhythms and the environment around you.
By committing to these practices, many individuals report feeling more energized, focused, and ready to tackle the day ahead. Embrace the sun as an ally in your wellness journey and experience the benefits of living in sync with nature.
