An issue for the people becoming.

The things nobody tells you about being a teenager: nobody has it figured out, you don’t need to peak in high school, being different is a gift, and becoming takes longer than you think.

A little magazine for the almosts, the maybes, and everyone figuring it out as they go.

... Read moreNavigating the teenage years can often feel overwhelming, filled with uncertainty and pressure to have everything figured out early on. From personal experience, I have realized that the journey of becoming is far from linear, and embracing this can be incredibly freeing. One important lesson I've learned is the value of reassessing what it means to be 'successful' as a teenager. Society often glorifies peaking early—getting perfect grades, being popular, or having a clear future plan right away. However, I’ve found that life doesn’t operate on a preset timeline, and it's completely fine not to have all the answers in high school or even into your twenties. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and comparing your growth to others only leads to unnecessary anxiety. The OCR text highlights a powerful message: "You don't need to peak at 17; your life is not a countdown." This is a mindset worth adopting. Pressure and expectations can make adolescents feel like they need to have everything figured out, but in reality, becoming yourself takes time and patience. Another key takeaway is embracing what makes you different. Being unique isn’t a problem but a gift, as the OCR content quotes, "Being different is a superpower." When I began celebrating my quirks and what made me stand out rather than trying to fit in, my confidence grew immensely. It's also important to acknowledge the awkward, cringe-worthy moments that come with growing up—they are universal and transient. Many teenagers obsess over how others perceive them, but most people are too caught up worrying about themselves to judge others harshly. Learning to be 'soft' in a world that often encourages hardness, as mentioned in the OCR notes, helped me retain my authenticity and kindness. Practical advice would be to focus on self-compassion and not shrink to make others comfortable, a notion echoed repeatedly. Allow yourself to make mistakes, change directions, and start over multiple times if needed. The path to adulthood is a continuous process of discovery and reinvention. In summary, the teenage years are about becoming—not being perfect or having life all figured out immediately. Cherish the journey, honor your individuality, and remember that taking longer to become who you’re meant to be is not only okay but expected. This perspective shift can transform how teenagers view themselves and their future, fostering resilience and a more fulfilling transition into adulthood.
