Best “Concoction” I have eaten!!!! 🥗

I rarely dine at Applebees, but it was my Sister n laws choice 😊 Looking over the menu for a HEALTHY meal, I notice a picture-“Thinking what a mess of food put together 🤮 but I like it all, SO WHY NOT?” “MEX-STYLE SALAD W/ CHIPOTLE LIME FLAVORED CHICKEN” it gets a 12/10 rating from me!!! Rice, beans, corn, lettuce, avocado & Chicken w/awesome flavoring plus extra to take home. Think I will be dining a little more at Applebees!!!!

Got any menu recommendations for my next dine-in?

... Read moreFinding genuinely healthy and delicious options at popular chain restaurants can sometimes feel like a treasure hunt. I've often walked into places like Applebee's, expecting to compromise on either taste or nutrition. But every now and then, you strike gold! My recent experience with their Mex-Style Salad with Chipotle Lime Flavored Chicken was exactly that – an unexpected culinary victory that I simply have to share. Let me tell you, this salad is a game-changer. It's not just a pile of greens; it's a vibrant symphony of flavors and textures. The base of crisp lettuce provides a refreshing crunch, perfectly complemented by the hearty mix of rice and beans. What truly elevates it, though, is the grilled chicken. It’s not just any chicken; it's infused with a fantastic chipotle lime flavor that's both zesty and a little smoky, making every bite exciting. Then you have the creamy avocado adding a luxurious touch, the sweet pop of corn, and the fresh bite of pico de gallo. And those crispy tortilla strips? They add just the right amount of texture and a satisfying crunch without overwhelming the dish. It’s packed with so many fresh ingredients that you genuinely feel good eating it, proving that 'healthy' doesn't have to mean 'boring' when dining out. Now, if you're like me and always on the lookout for healthier choices at Applebee's, this salad is definitely a top contender. But what else can you look for? I've learned a few tricks. Always ask for dressings on the side; this gives you control over how much you consume. Opt for grilled proteins over fried whenever possible – whether it's chicken, steak, or even shrimp. Many menus also allow you to swap out sides. Instead of fries, could you get steamed vegetables like broccoli or green beans? It’s amazing how a simple substitution can drastically change the nutritional profile of your meal. Another tip I've found helpful is to look for menu items that naturally feature a lot of fresh vegetables. Even if it's not explicitly labeled 'healthy,' a dish rich in veggies, lean protein, and whole grains is usually a good bet. Don't be afraid to ask your server questions about ingredients or preparation methods. Most restaurants are happy to accommodate reasonable requests. For instance, if a dish sounds appealing but comes with a heavy sauce, ask if it can be served on the side, or if there's a lighter alternative. This proactive approach can unlock a whole new world of dining options you might have otherwise overlooked. My experience with the Mex-Style Salad truly opened my eyes to the possibility of finding delicious, satisfying, and relatively healthy meals even in places I didn't expect. It goes to show that sometimes the best things are unexpected finds. So next time you're at Applebee's – or any restaurant – I encourage you to venture beyond your usual order and explore the menu with a fresh perspective. You might just discover your own 12/10 'concoction' that you'll be raving about! What are your go-to healthy choices or best-kept secrets at chain restaurants? I'd love to hear them for my next dining adventure!
