Unpopular opinion: artist edition

Is art talent or a learned skill? I see this argued constantly, personally I think it’s a little of both, hear me out, I think most artist have that little bit of talent in them that spark of creativity and the rest is learned skill over time, I think anyone if they really put their minds to it could probably learn to draw, especially the more technical art, what do you think? #artistonlemon8 #artiststruggles #art

... Read moreIn the art community, the question of whether artistry is innate or taught is frequently discussed. Some argue that inherent talent is essential, while others believe that consistent practice can foster artistic skills. Research indicates that skills such as drawing, painting, and sculpting can indeed be developed through dedicated practice and the right instruction. Furthermore, creativity can manifest in many forms, not limited to traditional techniques. Engaging in art can boost mental health and provide a therapeutic outlet for expression. Many successful artists share that their journey involved continual learning and experimentation, highlighting the importance of embracing the process rather than seeking perfection. If you’re hesitant about your artistic abilities, consider exploring different mediums or styles to discover what resonates with you. Creating art should ultimately be about self-expression and enjoyment, regardless of skill level.

I agree, it’s both. I think there’s some degree of natural talent, but most of it is consistent practice. I’m mostly self-taught, but made most of my progress during lockdown. My practice was just doodling on everything I could get my hands on.
