this is less space focused advice here but you could try to focus the event around food or drinks. food is a great conversation starter and as someone with social anxiety, i would feel more confident going to an event with a 'task' in mind. something thats scary for people who want to socialize but dont have a lot of experience is not knowing what to do. if you organized an event where attendees are required or encouraged to bring a homemade food or drink item, those who are nervous about coming will have an idea in mind of what will be happening and they can plan out what they will bring, what they have to say about it, etc. you could follow the model that cake picnics use where the admission is free but all attendees must bring a homemade cake. you could do cookies, cocktails, cultural dishes, etc. and all would create conversation. it really creates a space for people to approach each other and say "your cookies look great! how did you make those?" i would LOVE to go to an event like that in my area
