จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวที่ได้ดูแลระบบโซลาร์บนหลังคาหลายหลังคา ผมพบว่าสิ่งหนึ่งที่เจ้าของบ้านมักไม่ทันสังเกตคือสายไฟ DC ที่มีความสำคัญสูงสุดในการส่งพลังงานจากแผงโซลาร์ไปยังอินเวอร์เตอร์ สายไฟพวกนี้เดิมทีจะมีฉนวนสีแดงสดเพื่อความปลอดภัยและการระบุสายที่ชัดเจน แต่เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปโดยเฉพาะในบริเวณที่มีแดดแรงเช่นในประเทศไทย สีแดงจะค่อยๆซีดลงจนกลายเป็นน้ำตาลและดำ ซึ่งเป็นผลจากการสะสมของรังสียูวีและความร้อนที่สูงบนหลังคา ตัวฉนวนจะเริ่มเปราะกรอบ และอาจมีรอยแตกหรือเสื่อมสภาพได้ เรื่องนี้ไม่ควรมองข้าม เพราะสายไฟโซลาร์เป็นไฟ DC ที่แรงดันสูง ซึ่งถ้าฉนวนแตกหรือเกิดความเสียหาย อาจทำให้เกิดไฟฟ้าช็อตหรือไฟลัดวงจรได้ นอกจากนี้จุดต่อสายไฟแบบ MC4 ที่ร้อนผิดปกติก็คือตัวบ่งชี้ว่าอาจมีปัญหาในการเชื่อมต่อซึ่งต้องรีบตรวจสอบ คำแนะนำที่อยากแนะนำสำหรับผู้ใช้ระบบโซลาร์คือ เลือกใช้สายไฟที่ได้มาตรฐาน PV1-F หรือมีใบรับรอง TÜV เพื่อให้มั่นใจว่าทนทานต่อแสง UV และความร้อนได้ดี ควรเดินสายไฟผ่านท่อที่กัน UV เพื่อปกป้องสายไฟโดยตรง และไม่ควรปล่อยให้สายไฟลอยอยู่กลางแดดโดยไม่ป้องกัน นอกจากนี้ การตรวจเช็คระบบโซลาร์อย่างน้อยปีละครั้งก็สำคัญมาก เพื่อจะได้พบความเสียหายก่อนที่จะกลายเป็นปัญหาใหญ่ และถ้าเห็นว่าสายไฟเริ่มมีสีเปลี่ยนหรือฉนวนแตกร้าว ควรต้องเปลี่ยนสายไฟใหม่ทันที สุดท้าย การติดตั้งและออกแบบระบบโซลาร์ควรทำโดยผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่เข้าใจการเลือกใช้วัสดุและการป้องกันความร้อนอย่างถูกต้อง เพราะระบบโซลาร์ที่ดีต้องทนแดดและความร้อนในเมืองไทยได้อย่างน้อย 20-30 ปี เพื่อคุ้มค่าการลงทุนและความปลอดภัยในระยะยาว
