BECOME A SEIZURE SUPERHERO!
💜
Living with or witnessing seizures can be challenging, but empowering yourself with knowledge can make a huge difference. Becoming a "seizure superhero" means being prepared to offer timely and compassionate assistance to those experiencing seizures. First, understanding the types of seizures is vital. The most common are generalized seizures, which affect both sides of the brain, and focal seizures, which start in one area. Recognizing the signs—such as convulsions, loss of consciousness, or unusual behaviors—helps in responding effectively. When assisting someone during a seizure, stay calm and keep the person safe by moving any dangerous objects away. Do not restrain their movements or put anything in their mouth. Time the seizure and, if it lasts longer than five minutes or the person has difficulty breathing afterward, call emergency services immediately. Post-seizure care is equally important. Comfort the individual as they regain awareness and offer reassurance, as confusion or fatigue can follow seizures. Additionally, raising awareness in your community by sharing accurate information helps break the stigma around epilepsy and seizures. Encouraging education in schools, workplaces, and social groups fosters understanding and support. By becoming a seizure superhero, you contribute to a safer, more informed community where people affected by seizures feel supported and empowered.
