The Letter

The letter had been sitting on my doorstep for three days before I dared to open it. Sitting there staring at me every time I opened the door to go out, come in, retrieve the mail from the box, sign for a delivery, etc. There’s no marking on the envelope, just some weather damage, and what looks to be a faint coffee stain? It unsettles me, the unmarked envelope with a letter inside. Who could it be from? What does it say? Guess there’s no way of ever knowing. I go back in and close the door. I pause with my hand still pressed against the closed door. “Shit…” I open the door and look down at the letter. “Curiosity killed the cat…” I say as I pick up the letter and slowly pull open the flap… “but… will satisfaction bring me back…?”
