Visit Ketchikan
Whether I am visiting Alaska as a guest or back when I was working on a cruise ship, this has always been my favorite destination.
I've had the blessing to travel to incredible places in the world and many of that via cruise ship. I will always tell people that Alaska should be at the top of their list for places to visit.

Having visited Ketchikan multiple times both as a cruise ship worker and a guest, I can confidently say this Alaskan town holds a unique charm that draws travelers back again and again. Ketchikan offers a rare blend of natural beauty, rich indigenous culture, and lively waterfront activities. Walking around Creek Street, the historic boardwalk over a salmon stream, you get a real feel for the town’s history. One of the highlights I recommend is exploring the Totem Heritage Center, where you can learn about the Native Tlingit and Haida cultures through their impressive totem poles and artwork. Nature lovers will appreciate the lush rainforests around the area, where you can hike, kayak, or even take a boat tour to spot wildlife like bald eagles, bears, and seals. The nearby Misty Fjords National Monument is a breathtaking spot for nature photography and peaceful exploration. If you’re traveling by cruise, Ketchikan’s compact size makes it easy to discover many attractions in a short time. The local shops and restaurants provide fresh seafood and Alaskan crafts, perfect for souvenirs and tasting local flavors. Whether you prefer guided tours or independent wandering, Ketchikan fits well with every travel style. Overall, Ketchikan stands out as a welcoming, scenic gateway to Alaska’s incredible wilderness and cultural heritage. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to add a memorable and enriching stop to their Alaskan cruise or travel itinerary.
