FIGHTING ANXIETY BY WALKING

At the end of December 2023, I had my very first panic attack and ever since then, I’ve felt very anxious daily and had an even worse panic attack last week. The attack was so bad that my legs and arms went numb, I couldn’t stand up and I couldn’t even make a fist with my hands. My blood pressure was 170/100 and the attack lasted for over an hour. Of course, I talked to my doctor about it and I work for a doctor as well so I got input from a few different healthcare professionals. I ended up getting prescribed Xanax just in case an attack comes on again but something I hate as someone who suffers from endometriosis, is added another pill to my pill box so after talking to my parents, I’m going to start going on long walks daily.

Today was my first day starting and I nearly walked 5 miles in about an hour and a half. I felt so so so good after walking. Which I was really surprised about because with endometriosis, I normally feel super exhausted after any type of exercise so I usually refrain from it. But I have decided that even if I feel bad after, I’m going to do it because I’d rather be in pain from Endo than to deal with an anxiety attack like that again. It was the worst experience of my life so far. 10/10 DO NOT recommend.

... Read moreWalking has been recognized as an effective way to manage anxiety symptoms. Numerous studies show that physical activity, including walking, can trigger the release of endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. This simple form of exercise not only helps combat anxiety but can also enhance overall well-being. For many individuals suffering from anxiety disorders, incorporating consistent walks into their routine can lead to significant improvements in mental health. Additionally, for those dealing with chronic pain conditions like endometriosis, gentle exercises can help alleviate tension and improve mood. It's essential to listen to your body and start slowly while gradually increasing the intensity and duration of your walks. Mindfulness during walks can further enhance the calming effects, allowing for a clearer state of mind. If you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, trying daily walks could be a practical and rewarding approach to regain control of your mental health. With the right mindset and persistence, walking can become an invaluable tool in your anxiety management toolkit.
