Wood tones 101: How to match different wood colors

My home has come with a lot of different wood tones! It is 100yrs old and has most of the original wood baseboards and doors. We’ve had to pick out furniture that will be different but not clash with the wood.

I was actually super surprised to see how light wood vets use dark wood work very well. And almost for any light & dark wood combo it will look just fine! Because they’re so opposite you don’t expect them to have to match!

My favorite tip is to use subtle decor that will help blend both the wood tones in. You can make anything match if you add more of the color throughout the room. So using wood picture frames or similar colors that were in our wood tones, changed the whole room! It’s what made our home come together.

Wood is such a solid decor and home accent option. Hope my tips can help you to add more wood to your home 🏠❤️

One vital tip is to choose wood with similar undertones; this helps in creating a unified look across various wood installations. Additionally, decorative accents such as paints, textiles, and furnishings should match or contrast effectively without clashing. When dealing with light and dark woods, the stark difference can be advantageous. These combinations often add depth and character to a room. It's helpful to select woods that have shades and textures aligning with your existing pieces. For instance, glossy finishes pair beautifully with similar gloss or matte textures, enhancing overall harmony. Furthermore, using wood elements in picture frames or other decor can introduce balance, allowing disparate wood tones to work together naturally. Such thoughtful arrangements can transform a space, making it truly stand out while maintaining comfort and style.
