Living beyond a survival mindset is a transformative journey, one that becomes even more meaningful as we gain life experience. From my own journey, I've found that recognizing the shift from merely surviving to truly thriving starts with small daily practices. For example, consciously creating inner peace can begin with simple mindfulness exercises—taking time to breathe deeply, acknowledge your emotions without judgment, and choose calm over anxiety. At 60 and beyond, challenges naturally arise, but focusing on who within you faces these challenges—as opposed to the circumstance itself—can dramatically change your perspective. Your "Best Self" acts as an inner compass pointing toward joy and enthusiasm that you generate internally rather than relying on external events. This shift is empowering because it puts you in control of your emotional state regardless of outside pressures. Another sign you've moved past survival mode is the ability to spark your own enthusiasm day-to-day. This means embracing activities that fuel your passion and purpose, whether it’s engaging in creative hobbies, volunteering, or personal growth work. When enthusiasm is self-generated, it sustains you through life’s ups and downs. Joy, like peace and enthusiasm, is a deeply personal feeling that flourishes when you nurture a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity. Surround yourself with positive affirmations, connect with uplifting communities or conversations, and prioritize self-care. These actions support the mindset shift from survival to thriving. Most importantly, remember that this mindset shift isn’t about perfection or never feeling struggle—it’s about choosing to respond consciously. You have the ability to dissolve limiting, survival-based beliefs and instead live authentically with freedom and fun. If you commit to this daily practice, soon you’ll notice more moments of peace, joy, and enthusiasm that come from within you alone. This truly is the above-average mindset—the mindset that empowers you to rise above mere survival and embrace a fulfilling, vibrant life at any age.
