I’m just not a big fan of the freestanding bathtub. To me it’s highly impractical. What do you think??

Freestanding bathtubs have been a popular trend in bathroom design, admired for their aesthetic appeal and ability to evoke a luxurious, spa-like atmosphere. However, despite their visual charm, many homeowners and designers highlight several practical concerns that come with choosing a freestanding tub. One critical consideration stems from the actual use and function of the tub. Unlike built-in tubs that seamlessly integrate with the bathroom walls and often include built-in shelving or storage, freestanding options require additional space. This spatial demand can be a significant drawback, especially in smaller bathrooms where maximizing every inch is crucial. The lack of wall support means plumbing must be cleverly hidden or exposed as a design feature, which may complicate installation or maintenance. In addition, everyday usability can be compromised. Freestanding tubs typically have higher edges, which might make entering and exiting more challenging, particularly for children, elderly people, or those with mobility restrictions. Maintenance can also be an issue; cleaning all sides of the tub requires more effort since it stands apart from room surfaces. The trendiness of freestanding tubs can sometimes overshadow their practical limitations. While they can serve as a stunning focal point reminiscent of Tuscan-era elegance, the essential need is balancing beauty with utility. Considering what suits your lifestyle and bathroom layout best is crucial before committing to a freestanding design. Therefore, when renovating your bathroom, it’s essential to evaluate not just the visual impact but also how the bathtub complements your daily routines and space constraints. Whether you lean towards a freestanding or built-in tub, prioritizing use and functionality ensures your bathroom remains both stylish and comfortable for all its users.
