WFH Mom Lactation Break

2025/1/6 Edited to

... Read moreReturning to work, even from the comfort of your home, can be a huge adjustment, especially when you're a WFH MOM still committed to providing breast milk for your little one. I know that feeling of dread mixed with determination, just like my first LACTATION BREAK back. It's not just about finding the time; it's about making those precious pumping sessions effective and stress-free. One of the biggest challenges is fitting pumping into a busy WFH schedule. My best advice? Treat your lactation breaks like any other important meeting. Block out 30-minute or even half-hour slots in your calendar. This signals to your team (and yourself!) that this time is non-negotiable. Communication is key here – let your manager and close colleagues know your pumping schedule. Most workplaces are supportive, and being upfront can prevent awkward interruptions. To maximize those short breaks, efficiency is paramount. Set up a dedicated pumping station that’s ready to go. Think about having a comfortable chair, hands-free bra, water bottle, and a snack all within reach. Every minute counts when you're trying to pump and get back to work. I’ve found that even 15-20 minutes of focused pumping can be effective if you're consistent. Maintaining your milk supply while navigating work can feel like an uphill battle. After my own first day back, I was so relieved to see my supply coming back. Hydration is absolutely critical – keep a water bottle by your side and sip throughout the day. Don't skimp on nutrition either; your body needs fuel to produce milk. I also try to incorporate healthy snacks. Consistency in pumping schedule helps regulate your body's milk production. Even if you don't get much during a session, the act of pumping signals to your body that milk is needed. If you're feeling a dip, a short power pumping session (pumping for 10-12 minutes, resting for 10, pumping again for 10, etc.) over an hour can sometimes help boost supply. Let's not forget the 'why' behind all this effort. Providing 'mothers milk' truly offers incredible benefits for your baby, from boosting their immune system to aiding in their development. And for us moms, the act of breastfeeding and pumping can be incredibly empowering, not to mention it helps with postpartum recovery. It's a journey, and every drop counts. It's also important to manage stress. Easier said than done when you're juggling work and motherhood, right? But stress can impact milk supply. Take a few deep breaths before you start pumping, listen to some calming music, or simply scroll through cute baby photos. Remember, you're doing an amazing job. Be kind to yourself through this process. You're a WFH MOM making it work, one LACTATION BREAK at a time.
