October Reads 🎃

Here are some of my October reads and their ratings!! The rest to follow with their series reviews!!

The Housemaid: such a fun option for October!! This book was a fun ride and the build up was amazing!! The characters were great too and had so much depth!!

The Housemaid’s Secret: This book was not as good as the first but still a super fun read!! I am kind of nervous about the third book because I’ve heard it’s harder to get through, put in the comments below your thoughts on if I should continue!!

Aisling Breath of the New Creature: Oh. My. Gosh. I absolutely loved this book!! The characters were amazing (Lir 💕). Seriously though, this book is extremely underrated, go pick it up, it was soooo good!!

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's dive deeper into 'The Housemaid's Secret' – because, honestly, this book sparked so many conversations for me! While I mentioned it wasn't quite as jaw-dropping as the first 'The Housemaid', I still found it to be a totally gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist that kept me glued to the pages. It's funny how sequels can be, right? Sometimes the bar is set so high by the original that the follow-up, even if excellent, just feels different. For me, Freida McFadden has a knack for creating these intricate plots where you think you've figured it out, and then BAM! Another twist hits you. 'The Housemaid's Secret' really showcases her ability to maintain that suspense. The tension built beautifully, even if the initial impact wasn't quite the same as the first time I met Millie. I appreciated how the story continued to explore the complexities of character and motivation, keeping me second-guessing everyone's true intentions until the very end. That's what I love most about a good psychological thriller – that feeling of never quite knowing who to trust. Now, about whether to continue with a series when the second book feels a little different – I totally get the hesitation! I've been there so many times. My advice? Sometimes it's worth pushing through, especially if the author has a strong track record. Often, the third book can bring everything full circle or introduce a fresh perspective that reignites your love for the series. Before diving in, I like to check spoiler-free reviews from trusted sources or even discuss it with friends who've read it. If the general consensus is positive and suggests a satisfying conclusion, I'd probably go for it. But if you're not feeling it, there are always so many other incredible books out there waiting to be discovered! For those who, like me, are obsessed with psychological thrillers, especially ones with a shocking twist, here’s what I often look for: unreliable narrators, a fast-paced plot, and characters with hidden depths. Freida McFadden consistently delivers on these fronts. Her stories often peel back layers of suburban perfection to reveal dark secrets, making you question everything you thought you knew. It's not just about the 'whodunit' but the 'why did they do it' and the psychological aftermath. So, if you picked up 'The Housemaid's Secret' hoping for another addictive psychological thriller, I can confidently say it delivers, even if it feels like a different beast than its predecessor. It's a testament to McFadden's storytelling that even a slightly less impactful sequel still manages to be a standout read for the genre. Happy reading, and let me know your thoughts if you've read the third one!
