Tips for visiting NYC this summer☀️🌇

I recently visited NYC and have some tips for people planning to visit this summer!

City walking: although it’s cool to see at night a lot of the street vendors and shops close down around midnight. Sometimes they have events but it’s busy even when they don’t. Be prepared to walk and protect your personal belongings. Watch who you interact with. Don’t take photos, film or watch a street performer unless you’re ready to pay for it. They will get in your space and even try to hand you things to get you to buy it. Politely say no and move on and mind your business. There can be cool things to see but you have to watch out for scammers.

Pizza: there’s pizza shops everywhere. They are usually large slices and are quick cheap and filling so you can keep things moving along your adventure.

Indoor activities: keep an eye out for stores and museums that may interest you so you can find a way to cool off and get out of the sun for a bit.

Dinner: there is TONS of unique food! Pasta de pasta was my favorite spot for dinner but it was hard to decide when there was so many options. You can just stop in somewhere along the way or do some reach search to find a place that will really hit the spot!

Empire State Building: it’s worth paying a few extra bucks to see the higher points in the tower. The viewing points are much better.

City transportation: it can be intimidating at first but all you have to do is pay attention! There are signs all over inside and outside of the trains and stations. You can also use the gps on your phone to help navigate but you’ll loose service once you go underground so be sure to download the map. It can get busy, hot, and crowded fast so get to where you need to be and be ready to keep moving. You don’t always get a seat so be prepared to stand for extended periods of time. Hold on to the railing, that thing moves! Set up payments on your phone or watch for quick access when entering the station.

Dessert: my favorite spot is the cannoli king in little Italy! We got a few different deserts and all of them were FANTASTIC! There were tons of other ice cream, chocolate and sweet shops around town.

Weather/clothing: be prepared for a bit of everything. It can be windy, hot, cool and rainy! Bring clothes to keep cool while walking the city in the afternoon, something to bundle up with in the morning and evening, dress clothes for bars and clubs, and cozy clothes for travel or rainy days. I recommend comfy close toed shoes to wear every day.

It’s vital to dress appropriately for the fluctuating weather. Summer highs can soar, but mornings and evenings may be brisk; layering light clothing is advisable. Comfortable, close-toed shoes are a must, as you’ll spend hours walking through iconic neighborhoods and massive parks like Central Park. When it comes to transportation, the subway is often the quickest way to get around, despite initial intimidation. Grab a subway map, or download city navigation apps before you head underground, as cell service is spotty. Allocate plenty of time for travel, particularly during peak hours. Food enthusiasts will find themselves in a paradise. Besides the ubiquitous pizza joints - an essential NYC experience - venture into lesser-known eateries. From the robust flavors at Katz's Delicatessen to the indulgent desserts of Little Italy, each meal can be a highlight. Many locals suggest trying street vendors for authentic eats without breaking the bank, but approach with caution; some are known for aggressive sales tactics. Outdoor attractions like Times Square and the High Line offer stunning views. However, watching out for crowded spaces is a must—stay alert to avoid pickpockets and aggressive vendors looking to sell you souvenirs. To maximize your visit, consider off-peak hours for popular sights like the Empire State Building to enjoy breathtaking views without waiting in long lines. Lastly, stay hydrated and take breaks to avoid fatigue. The city can be overwhelming, but with the right mindset and this guide, your summer visit to NYC is bound to be unforgettable.

Top of the Rock is cheaper than the empire state building. Better view on 30 Rockefeller center. They're are smaller museums all over the city. For a more intimate feel of the city explore some of the lesser known places. Hit the local bodega for some great sandwiches during lunch. Try heading into Astoria, stop by the Neptune dinner. Great Greek food
