I'm a HistFic author venturing into Romance

Her love is his only salvation—and the undoing of everything he needed to survive.

An immortal knight. A fearless rebel. A love forged in the fires of revolutionary France.

Chevalier Rollant de Montvieux was once a man of honor. Betrayed on the battlefield and bound by a sorceress’s curse, he has spent six centuries serving the French crown—immortal, untouchable, and doomed to lose anyone he dares to embrace in love.

As revolution smolders in the streets of Paris, Rollant clings to duty as his only purpose in his wretched existence, until he meets her.

Élise has nothing left to lose. Defiant, outspoken, and determined to fight for a future free from tyranny, she has no patience for kings—or the royalists who serve them. But when she crosses paths with Rollant in a spy’s disguise, she senses something different beneath his quiet strength—a man burdened by secrets, trapped in a fate not of his choosing.

Drawn together by forces neither can control, their connection deepens in the shadows of a crumbling world.

But Rollant knows love is forbidden to him.

To hold Élise is to curse her to certain death.

As France teeters on the edge of war, Rollant must make an impossible choice: honor his unbreakable oath and protect her from afar, or risk everything—including her life—for one fleeting chance at love.

And Élise must decide where her true battle lies: in the streets of Paris, fighting for freedom, or in the arms of a man who may be her ruin or her greatest salvation.

Authors Note

I wrote The Darkest Oath because I wanted to explore the cost of vengeance when bound by immortality, and the weight of love when tangled in revolution. At its heart, this story came from a question that haunted me from my greatest fear of losing my family: What would you give to protect those you love?

That’s where Rollant began—not as a mythic knight, but as a human, a man. A loyal crusader who prayed for righteousness and died betrayed by the very brotherhood he swore to uphold. His story is shaped as much by swords as it is by silence—the silence that follows a prayer unanswered, or a vow made in desperation. In choosing to live again, Rollant doesn’t just forfeit death—he forfeits peace, and begins a slow exile from the God he once believed would greet him on the other side.

That chasm—between man and heaven, between vengeance and grace—became the soul of the book.

This was never just a story about history or fantasy or even romance; it was about legacy. The oaths we make in anguish. The secrets we bury to protect others. The way centuries twist memory into myth. Writing Rollant and Élise’s story let me reckon with the terrifying beauty of grief, justice, and longing. Because love, especially in my stories, is never simple. It is rarely safe. But it is always worth it.

Why does it matter?

Because The Darkest Oath asks us to look into the shadowed parts of ourselves—the places where our convictions blur, where we would kill to protect or lie to preserve, where our oaths—however sacred—might condemn us. And yet, it still holds out a glimmer of hope: that even those chained by darkness might find redemption in the light of another soul.

For readers who love rich history braided with myth, aching, slow burn, closed door romance carved from ruin, and flawed heroes who stagger beneath the weight of their choices—this book is for you.

And maybe, if you listen closely, you’ll hear the echo of your own oaths in the dark.

... Read moreHey bookworms! Since I've seen so much interest in 'The Darkest Oath' and its unique blend of historical romance and dark fantasy, I wanted to dive a little deeper into some of the elements you've been asking about – especially that intriguing sorceress's curse and our immortal knight, Rollant! When I first conceived Rollant, I wasn't just thinking of a hero; I was imagining a man burdened by centuries of isolation, betrayed on the battlefield not just by enemies, but by fate itself. The curse isn't just a plot device; it's a living, breathing character in his story, shaping every decision. What does it mean to be unable to die, yet constantly lose everyone you dare to love? That emotional weight, that slow burn of despair, is something I really wanted to explore. It's what makes him a truly flawed hero, and for me, that's where the most compelling stories lie. Then there's Élise, our fearless rebel. Her role in disguise was crucial. It wasn't just about hiding her identity; it was about challenging Rollant's perceptions of duty and allegiance. Imagine an immortal hero who's only known loyalty to a crumbling crown, suddenly confronted by a woman who embodies the very spirit of revolution, all while hiding her true intentions. Their initial interactions, the tense dance of secrets and burgeoning attraction, truly set the stage for their love interest to blossom amidst the chaos of revolutionary France. I loved writing those scenes where they're trying to figure each other out, with so much at stake. And let's talk about the Gothic romance vibe! The atmosphere of 18th-century Paris, teetering on the brink of war, with dark, winding streets and hidden agendas, perfectly complemented Rollant's inner turmoil. The red roses and pistols hinted at on the cover aren't just imagery; they symbolize the beauty and danger, the passion and violence that define their world. It’s not a light-hearted romance; it’s one forged in fire, where love becomes an act of defiance against a cruel fate. I wanted to evoke that sense of brooding mystery and intense emotion that classic Gothic tales are known for, while still giving you that satisfying, deep historical romance connection. The Beauty & the Beast vibes some of you mentioned from the cover descriptions are definitely intentional too. Rollant, with his ancient curse and profound loneliness, is our 'Beast,' longing for connection but fearing his own darkness. Élise, with her courage and ability to see beyond the surface, is his 'Beauty.' But it's not a simple fairytale; it’s a gritty, complex exploration of whether love can truly break a centuries-old sorceress's curse. Can their love conquer not just external forces, but the deeply ingrained fears and oaths that bind them? Writing 'The Darkest Oath' was an incredible journey, blending rich historical fantasy with a powerful, emotional core. It's a story that asks: what would you sacrifice for love when everything—and everyone—you touch is destined to turn to dust? I hope you enjoy diving into Rollant and Élise's world as much as I loved creating it!
