Boox Palma 2 Pro
So I did a thing lol. I have been going back-and-forth with the idea of getting the new Boox Palma 2 pro just because there are a few features that I was looking for that my iPhone can do like read my books out loud to me without having to have the audiobook and it sound more human than robotic, and I didn’t know if it would take my carrier Sims card and maybe a few other small details but I finally decided to get one because I get really bad migraines when I am on the phone a lot, and I like the idea that I could have this with me instead of my Kindle and it actually works with my carrier and it can read aloud to me without having to have an audiobook which I do have the Libby app, but some of the books that I have there is no audiobook on Libby for it or it takes months to be able to get it I also decided to download a launcher app that I previously had on my first Boox Palma 1 and surprisingly it has a phone app and a messaging app that I can use to make calls and text off of this as well. The original software that comes on the Palma does not have an app for that so if you were looking into trying to use it as a second phone, then I would definitely recommend to download smart launcher Pro 6. If you guys are looking into getting one and have any questions, please feel free to ask me in the comments and I will try to answer them as best as I can.
Okay, so my initial thoughts on the Boox Palma 2 Pro have settled a bit, and I wanted to dive deeper into what makes this device truly stand out, especially for someone like me trying to reduce screen strain. When I first considered this, the biggest draw was definitely the e-ink screen's potential for migraine relief. After using it for a while now, I can confidently say it's made a huge difference. Staring at an e-ink display feels so much gentler on my eyes compared to a traditional smartphone screen, even with dark mode. It’s like reading a physical book, but with all the convenience of digital. Another feature I absolutely adore is the text-to-speech. This goes beyond what my iPhone could do, offering a really natural-sounding voice that makes listening to books a joy, even for titles where an audiobook isn't available on Libby. It’s perfect for when I'm doing chores or just want to rest my eyes completely. The clarity and pacing are surprisingly good, making it a viable alternative to professional audiobooks for many of my reads. Now, about using it as a phone alternative – this was a bit of an experiment, but it's paying off. The fact that it takes my carrier's SIM card is incredible. While the original software doesn't have a phone or messaging app, installing Smart Launcher Pro 6 (which I also used on my previous Boox Palma 1) completely transformed it. I can now make and receive calls and texts directly from the device. It's not my primary smartphone, but for someone looking to minimize distractions or reduce screen time, having a fully functional secondary device that can still connect me to the world without the typical smartphone stressors is fantastic. It means I can leave my main phone behind for certain activities without feeling completely cut off. Speaking of practicality, accessorizing this device has been key to my experience. Getting a clear protective case for my Boox Palma 2 Pro was a no-brainer; it keeps the device safe from everyday bumps and scratches while still showing off its sleek design. And honestly, adding a pop socket to the back has been a game-changer for one-handed reading and holding the device comfortably for extended periods, whether I'm reading in bed or on the go. I even attached a cute keychain to personalize it further. These small additions truly enhance the usability and feel of the device. Battery life has also been impressive, especially when compared to a smartphone. The e-ink screen sips power, meaning I can go days without charging, even with regular reading and occasional calls. It’s truly a device for focused tasks, whether that's diving into a good book, catching up on articles, or just having a low-stress way to stay connected. For anyone considering a digital detox or just seeking a gentler screen experience, the Boox Palma 2 Pro definitely deserves a closer look. It's more than just an e-reader; it’s a thoughtfully designed tool for a more mindful digital life.
