Psych ward
#lemon8diarychallenge I went to the psych ward in February and coloring helped me so much and these are two of my faves I colored. I wonder if my grandma didn’t have Alzheimer’s if I woulda went to the psych ward.
Reflecting on my own journey, the power of simple, creative outlets really became clear during a challenging time. It’s incredible how something as seemingly small as picking up crayons can make such a profound difference when you're navigating difficult emotions. I remember how much comfort I found in those moments, like when I colored that Elmo drawing, showing him gently watering a goldfish. There's something so calming about focusing on a familiar, cheerful character and the simple act of bringing it to life with color. It was a small escape, a moment of peace. Coloring, for me, wasn't just a pastime; it was a form of active meditation. It encourages mindfulness, drawing your attention away from worries and onto the page. You're fully present in the moment, choosing colors, staying within the lines, or even deliberately going outside them! This focused activity can slow down racing thoughts and reduce anxiety. It's a gentle way to process feelings without having to articulate them verbally, which can be incredibly therapeutic when words are hard to find. I also recall working on an 'AUTISM awareness' coloring page, with its vibrant puzzle piece letters, butterflies, and the uplifting messages like 'GROW HOPE LOVE INSPIRE ACCEPT'. This kind of themed coloring can be particularly powerful. It not only provides a creative outlet but also carries a deeper meaning, fostering a sense of connection and positive purpose. It reminds us that art can be a vehicle for understanding and personal growth, offering a silent space for reflection and acceptance. For anyone looking for simple ways to support their mental well-being, I can't recommend coloring enough. It's accessible, doesn't require special skills, and the benefits are truly impactful. Think of it as a form of 'mental hygiene' – just like we perform daily routines for physical health, engaging in simple, comforting activities like coloring, or even the routine of taking a mindful moment, can cleanse our minds. It’s about creating those small pockets of calm in your day. Whether it's a detailed mandala, a cherished cartoon character like Elmo, or an inspirational awareness piece, allowing yourself that time for creative expression can be a vital tool in your self-care toolkit. It’s about being kind to yourself, one colored stroke at a time.
