Sprites VS lightning
Sprites occur in the upper atmosphere of a storm where it is colder and less stable. Resulting in red, pink and even blue and green colors.
Lightning occurs in the lower atmosphere where it is warmer and more stable resulting in a white color.
It took me years to figure out how to do still shots of lightning and I learned. I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Sprites and lightning are both electrical phenomena associated with storms, but they occur in very different layers of the atmosphere and exhibit unique visual characteristics. Capturing clear, still photographs of lightning, especially sprites, is notoriously challenging and often requires years of practice and specialized equipment. Unlike video stills, which can suffer from motion blur and lower resolution, still shots demand precise timing, quick reflexes, and the use of high-speed cameras or long exposure techniques. Photographers must also consider weather conditions, storm locations, and safety precautions when venturing outdoors to capture these phenomena. Beyond their beauty, studying sprites and lightning helps scientists better understand atmospheric electricity and storm dynamics.
