Wash Day: Easy Mode!
As a beginner, I've been trying to be real strategic with my wash day routine. These products have been doing great for my hair lately and here's why:
THE HOT OIL TREATMENT: this is just great for treating my dry hair and scalp in one go! I usually detangle my hair with a conditioner+water mixture first before applying it. once applied, i cover my hair with a showercap and let it sit for a minimum of 30 minutes (sometimes I forget about it and leave it for up to an 1 hour).
THE WASH: because the h.o.t doubles as a deep conditioner, there's no need for me to use the deep conditioning mask while I'm in the shower. I only use that when I've skipped my h.o.t. I go in with my difeel shampoo/conditioner like normal, because my main target is strong hair that encourages healthy growth.
the tea tree shampoo is only used when I need a wash day that specifically targets my dry scalp. I use that particular shampoo maybe once a month or so, but it's great to have for those days my scalp gets mega itchy.
the mielle products are a hand-me-down from my bf, who didn't get the same results from this brand that I did. I was lucky that it ended up working for me and i didn't have to spend money! I only use these when I'm in the mood for REALLY defined coils (and I've found the h.o.t helps with this too, giving it an extra hydrated boost of curls)
FOR STYLING: I rarely use the gel in the 4 slide because I'm trying NOT to overmanipulate my hair. low tension styles are my main focus, and I can use these products no matter what wash day routine I go with (though I've noticed the curls are never as defined as when I use the mielle products, which is honestly okay with me)
FOR SCALP: I try not to use too much oil on the scalp, even though I have dry scalp problems. on top of my h.o.t, I use the difeel peppermint oil after my whole routine is done. the tingles feel reeeeeally good on my scalp and it usually don't have to reapply since I wash my hair weekly. if my scalp gets REALLY itchy, I whip out the sulfer8 (this rarely happens though, especially now that ive been doing h.o.t). I also rarely use the hair fertilizer, but when I get braids, I like to use it on my scalp to encourage growth while my hair is in a protective style.
and there you have it! a list of all my used products and a peek into my wash day routine! I'm still learning how to take proper care of my natural hair, but so far this has been working for me. I'm always accepting tips and recommendations, so let's help each other out here. let me know what products you use that you swear by! if youre a beginner like me, i hope this helps to at least point you in the right direction! thanks for reading!

A well-planned wash day routine can make a significant difference in managing natural hair, especially for those with high porosity and dry scalps. Using a hot oil treatment is a great way to hydrate and nourish your hair before washing, and it can effectively serve as a deep conditioner, simplifying your routine. When it comes to shampooing, choosing the right products is essential. A specialized tea tree shampoo can help alleviate dryness and itchiness on the scalp when used monthly. Additionally, incorporating products that promote defined curls, such as the Mielle line, can enhance your styling experience. For styling, focusing on low manipulation techniques can preserve hair health and encourage growth. Consider using a lightweight gel or mousse to avoid over-manipulation, allowing your natural curl pattern to shine through. Post-wash, applying a soothing peppermint oil can help with dryness and discomfort, leaving your scalp feeling refreshed. Always be open to experimenting with different products and techniques, as everyone’s hair is unique. Keeping track of what works best for you is crucial. Share your experiences and product recommendations with others in the community to learn and grow together. Embrace the journey of learning how to care for your natural hair, and help each other in finding the ideal wash day practices!
