CURLS FTW
Anyone else have very fine, but curly hair?
Mine was never curly until my 20s, but it always had a wave to it 🌊
I prefer to air dry my hair over using heat to prevent damage, but struggle to find the right products that wouldn’t weigh down my curls or make my hair sticky
The problem was, I was using TOO many products in attempt to find the right method. I was watching TikToks and YouTube videos of people with much thicker hair and then copying what they did
I had enough and had decided to go back to using heat 😩
But after browsing Ulta one day, I came across the My Hair My Canvas Shine On Defining Foam by Alterna
I desperately picked it up and purchased it, expecting to return it for not working. But, I was pleasantly shocked and proved wrong!
It is very lightweight and not at all sticky. I’ve used it now on both wet and damp hair, and it’s worked amazingly well each time. I’ve been using this for months now and cannot recommend it enough!
It doesn’t appear that Ulta carries this product anymore, but you can purchase this from Walmart, Amazon, and from Alterna directly online!
Give it a shot and let em know what you think!

It's so true, finding the perfect routine for your curls can feel like a never-ending journey! While the article shared an amazing find for fine, air-dried curls, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into achieving various stunning curl styles and general hair care tips, especially for those of us with long hair or who dream of those lush, soft, or big barrel curls. Many of us search for "soft curls long hair" or "big barrel curls," and it's not always about one magic product, but a combination of technique and understanding your hair's needs. For those aiming for those dreamy soft curls, especially on longer hair, heatless methods can be a lifesaver. Try braiding damp hair before bed – a loose braid gives soft waves, while multiple smaller braids create more defined, tighter curls. Large satin or flexi-rods can also give you gorgeous, bouncy soft curls without any heat damage. When using heat, opt for a larger barrel curling iron (1.25-1.5 inches) and always, always use a good heat protectant. Curl your hair away from your face for a flattering look, and once cooled, gently brush them out with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers for that soft, romantic finish. If "big barrel curls" are your goal, consider using jumbo hot rollers or a 2-inch curling iron. The key here is to let the curls cool completely before touching them. You can even pin each curled section up to your scalp while it cools to help set the shape. For extra hold, a light setting spray applied before and after curling makes a huge difference. What about styling specific looks like "side part curls"? Creating a defined side part before you start curling can really enhance the final look. Curled hair naturally falls beautifully with a side part, offering more volume at the crown and framing your face elegantly. Don't be afraid to experiment with deep side parts for a dramatic effect! Beyond styling, general HAIR CARE for curly hair, regardless of type, is paramount. My personal journey has taught me that moisture is key. Co-washing (conditioner-only washing) a few times a week can prevent dryness, and investing in a good sulfate-free shampoo is non-negotiable. Deep conditioning treatments once a week, or even a nourishing hair mask, can bring life back to dull curls. I also swear by sleeping on a silk pillowcase or wrapping my hair in a silk scarf to reduce frizz and breakage – especially important for keeping long hair healthy. Regular trims are also crucial, not just for style, but to get rid of split ends that can travel up the hair shaft and weaken your curls. Learning to listen to your hair is part of the fun. Just like the article mentioned finding products that don't weigh down fine hair, understanding if your hair needs more protein or moisture, or if it prefers gel over foam, makes all the difference. Don't be discouraged if a technique or product doesn't work right away. It's all about trial and error to unlock your best curls, whether you're aiming for soft, big, or permanent-looking curls.
