My TikTok Hot Take

Ok less if a hot take and more or a becoming room temperature take but I am starting to hate all the “beauty tends” on tiktok. The whole blush blind, eyebrow blind, vuvuzela arms, like some people like a lot of blush and some people don’t. Yes sometimes people go wild with their makeup but a lot of people under the “blush blind” videos still looked fine. As far as the vuvuzela arms go I think its annoying af. Like the how arms work. They are small at the wrist and wide at the shoulder. That. How. They. Are. And people are capitalizing off if it and we’re just letting them. The amount of videos out there of “how to get rid of vuvuzela arms” from the words of a tiktoker I saw “you cant get ride of them unless you amputate them thats just how arms are”. I think there are some beauty trends that are lovely but there are so many that are just dumb.

... Read moreIn recent times, TikTok has emerged as a powerful platform influencing beauty trends and standards. With viral challenges and makeup hacks, users often share inventive ways to apply cosmetics that range from transformative to perplexing. One notable trend is the 'blush blind' technique, which encourages users to apply heavy blush, sometimes leading to exaggerated looks. While many embrace this trend, it's essential to understand that beauty preferences vary significantly. Some individuals prefer a subtle approach, while others enjoy a bold aesthetic. Another controversial trend is concerning body image, particularly with terms like 'vuvuzela arms.' This term refers to the appearance of arms, which many see as undesirable. However, it's vital to approach body positivity with a more inclusive mindset, recognizing that all body types are beautiful. Disparities in beauty standards can deeply affect self-esteem, leading to harmful behaviors or unrealistic aspirations. Instead of focusing on current trends, individuals should celebrate their unique features and promote inner confidence. Moreover, it’s essential to navigate TikTok's beauty trends critically, asking whether they are beneficial or merely gimmicks. Discussions around makeup should prioritize self-expression over conformity. As the landscape of beauty continues to evolve, fostering creativity while advocating for authenticity will help users navigate their own beauty journeys more healthily and positively.
