... Read moreIt's funny how people react when you first mention you're into rodeos. They often picture someone casually watching from the stands, maybe in a stylish cowboy hat. But for many of us, it's so much more than just an event – it's a way of life. When I hear someone ask, "So, you like to watch rodeo games?" I often smile to myself because, well, it’s "More Like.... I Ride Horses!" Being a real-life cowgirl means my days usually start before sunrise. It's not all glamorous, but it's deeply rewarding. First on the agenda is tending to my beloved animals. My farm is home to not just my majestic horses, but also playful goats, sturdy cows, and a lively flock of chickens. Each one requires daily care, feeding, and attention. It’s hard work, no doubt, but the connection you build with these creatures is truly special. There's a certain peace that comes with being surrounded by nature and animals, away from the hustle and bustle, even here in places like Gary, IN. Then comes the riding. Whether it’s for daily exercise, training, or preparing for an upcoming show, being in the saddle is where I feel most at home. There’s an incredible partnership between a rider and their horse, a silent communication built on trust and countless hours of practice. We work on everything from barrel racing techniques to pole bending, improving our speed and agility. Each session is a learning experience, pushing both of us to be better. And the rodeos themselves? They are the culmination of all that hard work and dedication. The atmosphere is electric – the roar of the crowd, the thundering hooves, the camaraderie among fellow riders. It's a test of skill, courage, and determination. You put your heart and soul into every run, every jump, every maneuver. The feeling of accomplishment, win or lose, is incomparable. It’s about pushing your limits and celebrating the spirit of the West. The 'cowgirl aesthetic' is popular, and sure, a well-placed cowboy hat and a good pair of boots are iconic. But the true beauty of being a rodeo cowgirl comes from the grit, the resilience, and the unwavering passion for this unique lifestyle. It's in the dusty boots, the calloused hands, and the deep love for these incredible animals and the sport. It's a life filled with challenges and triumphs, mud and glory, and I wouldn't trade a single minute of it.
