That's why I was absolutely thrilled when my polygel nails, with their lovely pink bases, blue swirl tips, and even the little charm, not only stayed perfectly intact but also looked great even after a month of significant growth. It really shows that good nail retention isn't just luck; it's all about technique and understanding a few key principles. One of the biggest game-changers for me in achieving this kind of durability was truly understanding the polygel nail apex. Before, I'd just slap on the product, but once I learned about the apex structure, my retention went from 1-star to 5-star! Think of the apex as the strongest point or the highest arch of your nail enhancement. It's crucial because it provides structural integrity, distributing stress evenly across the nail. Without a properly built apex, your nails are far more prone to cracking, breaking, or lifting, especially if you have any length. So, how do you build a good apex? It starts with proper nail prep, which is non-negotiable for any good retention. Ensure your nails are clean, dehydrated, and gently buffed to create a surface the polygel can adhere to. Then, when applying the polygel, you want a slightly thicker bead in the middle of the nail, near the stress point where your natural nail extends past your fingertip. From this central point, gently guide the product down towards the free edge and back towards the cuticle, ensuring the thickest part remains in the apex area. This creates a beautiful, strong arch. My pink bases and blue swirl tips stayed flawless largely because I paid attention to this structure underneath. Another tip for excellent nail retention is to ensure thorough curing. Polygel needs proper UV/LED light exposure to harden completely. If it's under-cured, it remains flexible and can lead to lifting. I also found that capping the free edge โ€“ sealing the tip of the nail with polygel โ€“ prevents chipping and peeling from the front. Even with significant growth, my charm stayed put, which I attribute to careful application and a well-built apex supporting the entire structure. By focusing on these details, anyone can go from short-lived manicures to a durable polygel set that truly lasts!
