... Read moreMy journey from a beginner artist in 2017 to where I am today in 2025 has truly been a rollercoaster, but so incredibly rewarding! When I first started drawing seriously, I honestly felt lost. Like many self-taught artists, I spent years grappling with the basics, and I wish someone had given me a few pointers way back when. One of my biggest challenges initially was simply understanding how to use my pencils effectively. It wasn't just about pressing harder or softer; it was about understanding values, blending techniques, and how different lead hardnesses could create varying effects. I remember my early drawings often looked flat because I wasn't getting enough contrast. What helped me was studying other artists' work, not just copying, but analyzing how they achieved depth and texture with simple graphite. YouTube tutorials became my best friend for learning shading exercises. Then there was drawing hair – oh my goodness, that was probably the hardest part for me for a long time! My early attempts often looked like helmets or stiff spaghetti. I realized my mistake was trying to draw every single strand. Instead, focusing on drawing hair as masses and shapes, understanding its flow, and then adding select details made a huge difference. Practicing different hair textures and styles from references, and not being afraid to make many mistakes, eventually led to significant improvement. Another game-changer was learning to use basic shapes to position my drawings. When I started, I'd jump straight into details, and my proportions would be all over the place. Breaking down complex forms into simple circles, squares, and triangles before adding any details helped me get accurate anatomy and composition much faster. It's like building a skeleton before you add the skin! This foundational skill is invaluable for any artist, whether you're sketching figures or still life. As my skills grew, I also started exploring new mediums. The OCR mentioned I began using digital platforms in 2025, and that's been such an exciting development! Switching to digital art opened up a whole new world of possibilities for experimenting with colors, brushes, and even different art styles without the mess or cost of traditional materials. It’s a fantastic way to push your boundaries and learn what resonates with you. Whether you're into realistic portraits, vibrant cartoons, or even something whimsical like cute art, digital tools can accelerate your learning curve and help you define your unique aesthetic. Remember, 'practice makes perfect' isn't just a cliché; it's the absolute truth for artists. It’s not about drawing perfectly every time, but about consistently showing up, trying new things, and learning from every mark you make. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, try a new technique, or even attempt a difficult subject. Every stroke contributes to your artistic growth. Keep creating, keep learning, and celebrate every little bit of progress along the way!

In 2018 I got this tattoo after my dad passed, his handwriting. When I got the tattoo, it looked exactly like his handwriting. Within the next few days it almost looked like the ink had spread some. The bottom picture is today 6 years later. I think I need to have it covered and to get the tattoo a
