Me 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿 Hats

I just wanted to see how nice I would look in a hat now that my loc babies grew a bit since I’ve first started them (abt three years ago now lol). Will be putting together fits soon.

After my locs matured, I found myself constantly wondering which hats would work best without squishing my precious strands or making my head feel too tight. So, I’ve done a lot of experimenting, and I want to share some tips that have really helped me embrace hats with my locs. First off, comfort is key. You don't want a hat that's too snug and pulls on your roots. Look for hats with a bit more room, or even adjustable features. I've found that beanies are fantastic, especially if you can find ones made with a looser knit or a soft, stretchy material. They're perfect for tucking in all your locs on a chilly day, or for just giving off a relaxed vibe. I often opt for those slouchy beanies that give my locs some space at the back. Then there are baseball caps and snapbacks. These are classics for a reason! For locs, an adjustable snapback is a lifesaver. You can loosen it to fit your head comfortably, and if your locs are long enough, you can even pull them through the back opening for a stylish ponytail or just let them cascade down. I’ve seen so many cool street style looks, definitely fitting a HIPHOP aesthetic, where people rock their locs with a fresh snapback. It gives off that effortlessly cool, somewhat TEENAGEA vibe, no matter your age! Wide-brimmed hats like fedoras or sun hats are also amazing. They offer great protection from the sun and instantly elevate any outfit. The trick here is to make sure the crown of the hat is deep enough to accommodate your locs without flattening them too much. Sometimes, I’ll gently gather my locs into a loose, low bun at the nape of my neck before putting on a wide-brimmed hat, which helps the hat sit better and keeps my locs looking neat. A crucial tip I learned is to consider the lining of your hat. If possible, look for hats with a satin or silk lining. This helps protect your locs from friction and keeps them from drying out or frizzing. If your favorite hat doesn't have one, you can always wear a satin scarf or bonnet underneath for extra protection – it makes a huge difference in maintaining the health and shine of your locs. And let's not forget about styling! You don't always have to hide your locs under a hat. Sometimes, it’s about how your locs frame your face around the hat. For shorter locs or starter locs, a simple beanie or a beret can look incredibly chic. For longer locs, experiment with leaving some locs out around your face, or creating a side sweep. It’s all about playing around and finding what makes you feel confident and stylish. So, don't be afraid to try on different hats with your locs! It’s a fantastic way to switch up your look, protect your hair, and express your personal style. Happy hat hunting!
