COME ON EOS 🤦🏾♀️ APPROVED MOISTURIZER!
When I first discovered the Yuka app, I was excited to see how my everyday beauty products measured up. Like many of you, I have my go-to items, and one of them was the EOS Shea Better 24H Moisture Body Lotion. So, imagine my surprise, and a little disappointment, when I scanned it and saw a shocking rating of 33/100 – flagged as 'Poor'! I always thought EOS was a decent brand, so this really made me pause and dig deeper into what a 'Poor' Yuka rating really means. It turns out, the Yuka app scrutinizes ingredients for potential risks. For the EOS moisturizer, the main culprits that led to its low score were ingredients like Petrolatum, Paraffinum liquidum, and Phenoxyethanol. Petrolatum and Paraffinum liquidum, often found in conventional moisturizers, are petroleum-derived ingredients that some sources suggest can create a barrier on the skin that might clog pores for some, or are simply not as beneficial as plant-based alternatives. Phenoxyethanol is a common preservative, but it's often flagged as a 'moderate risk' due to potential irritations for sensitive skin types. It was a real eye-opener to learn that even a popular product could contain ingredients that Yuka considers less than ideal for long-term skin health. This experience completely changed how I look at ingredient lists, making me much more conscious about what I’m putting on my body. But it wasn't all bad news! The Yuka app also helped me discover a treasure trove of 'Excellent' rated moisturizers. If you’re like me and looking for better, cleaner options, I’ve found some fantastic alternatives. For instance, Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion consistently gets high marks for its gentle, effective formula. I also found Native Coconut & Vanilla body lotion to be an excellent choice, aligning perfectly with searches for more natural, pleasant-smelling products – a great pick if you're curious about options beyond just 'coconut waters' for hydration. Other top contenders include La Roche Posay Lipikar AP+M Triple for sensitive skin needs, and Honest Sensitive Face and Body Lotion, which is fantastic for those seeking truly gentle care. Beyond these, my Yuka journey led me to other incredible finds like Shea Moisture Illuminating Body Lotion, another Native Sea Salt & Cedar option, Aveeno Tone + Texture Daily for improving skin texture, and Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter for intense hydration. What these 'Excellent' products often have in common is a focus on nourishing ingredients, fewer potential irritants, and transparent sourcing. They prove that you don't have to sacrifice effectiveness for ingredient quality. Using the Yuka app, or simply taking the time to read ingredient labels, can empower you to make more informed choices for your skincare routine. It's truly been a game-changer for me in navigating the overwhelming world of skincare products and finding what truly works well for my skin.
