Oh my goodness, if you're planning a trip to the Oregon Coast, Newport absolutely has to be on your list! We just got back from an incredible family getaway, and I'm still buzzing from all the amazing things we saw and did. It's truly one of the cutest Oregon coast towns with so much to offer. First off, the Oregon Coast Aquarium is a non-negotiable must-visit, especially if you're traveling with kids or just love marine life like I do! The highlight for me was definitely the golden jellyfish exhibit. Watching them float gracefully in their tanks was so mesmerizing, I could have stayed there all day. But beyond the jellyfish, they have fantastic exhibits showcasing local marine life, from playful sea otters to majestic sharks. It's such an immersive experience and super educational without feeling like a classroom. It's definitely one of the top kid activities near me if you're in the area! Beyond the aquarium, Newport's natural beauty is just breathtaking. We spent hours exploring the rocky Oregon coast, watching the powerful waves crash against the shore. Don't forget to visit the iconic Devil's Punchbowl! It's an incredible natural formation where the ocean swirls and surges into a collapsed sea cave – truly a sight to behold. We also found some fantastic spots for beachcombing and even tried our hand at looking for tide pools. For those who love the outdoors, there are also some wonderful hiking trails in the trees nearby, offering a different kind of scenic beauty away from the immediate coastline. And let me tell you, there's more to Newport than just marine life and dramatic coastlines. We stumbled upon the charming Ritner Creek Covered Bridge, a beautiful piece of history that makes for a perfect photo op. It really adds to the quaint, historic feel of the area. If you're looking for unique things to do in Newport, exploring these hidden gems is a must. We also took a stroll along the historic Bayfront, which is bustling with shops, restaurants, and active fishing boats. It’s a great place to grab some fresh seafood or watch the sea lions lounging on the docks. For those interested in Oregon Coast fishing, you'll see plenty of charter boats ready to take you out. My top tip for visiting Newport? Pack layers! The Oregon coast weather can be unpredictable, even in summer. And don't rush it – there's so much to explore, from historic lighthouses (we spotted one in the distance!) to charming local boutiques. Whether you're looking for adventurous outdoor activities or just a relaxing scenic getaway, Newport, Oregon, delivers. It truly is one of the top tourist attractions in Oregon for a reason!
