SMALL BREED 101: WHAT DO I DO? 🚨

When I first picked up Tofu, he was 8 weeks old & he lived on a small farm in Weatherford, TX.🐶

Him being a small breed dog, (Poma-Poo ; Toy Poodle / Pomeranian mix), these small babies have big personalities so here are some tips! 🐶

1. Smaller means more energy, but it’s easier to wear out those small little furry bodies.

- from playing catch for 12-13 minutes.

- tug of war for 12-15 minutes

- small short walks 💕

- small dogs tire out quicker- take the time to tire them out, it’ll be worth it with all the snuggles you gain.

2. Desensitize them AT A YOUNG AGE 🚨

- puppies this small can become dependent on you for comfort, this can result in separation anxiety.

You usually won’t notice you’re doing this because they’re so cute! 💕

So be mindful and purposeful.

Things like cars passing on the street, or too loud noises can startle and create an enemy for your fur baby.

3. Socialization is important.🚨

- teach your puppy recall, he/she is so small that regular sized items in everyday life can hurt them, BE AWARE!

- teach your small breed to interact correctly & calmly with all breeds, REMEMBER “SMALL DOG SYNDROME!”

These babies don’t know how small they are! - always remind them.

- socialization makes it easier on you for travel, as well.💕

... Read moreYou know, it's always fascinating to see pictures of celebrities with their adorable tiny dogs, isn't it? It often makes us wonder how they manage to keep their pups so well-behaved and healthy amidst their busy lives. The truth is, while they might have resources like trainers or dog walkers, the core principles of excellent small dog care are universal – and completely achievable for any loving owner! One thing I've noticed is how many celebrities opt for small breeds. It makes sense, right? These little companions are often perfect for city living, easy to travel with, and can adapt to various environments. But don't let their size fool you; like my Tofu, these "puppy" pals require just as much, if not more, dedicated care than their larger counterparts. Thinking about the "Transitioning With A puppy" phase, it's crucial for any new owner. When I brought Tofu home, establishing a consistent "routine" was paramount. This helps them feel secure and understand expectations, whether they're navigating a bustling Hollywood set or a quiet suburban home. Just like we discussed, desensitization at a young age is key. Imagine a celebrity pup getting startled by paparazzi flashes or loud event noises – a well-desensitized dog handles these situations with much more ease. Another aspect that often crosses my mind when I see these pampered celebrity pooches is their diet. We all want the best for our furry family members. So, when considering "What does my mama Feed me?" or "My favorite snacks," it’s important to remember that small breeds have unique metabolic needs. High-quality dog food tailored for small breeds provides the right nutrients and energy. I’ve found that small, frequent meals work best for Tofu, and choosing healthy, size-appropriate treats can really make a difference in their energy levels and coat health. Just like us, a good diet contributes hugely to their overall well-being and longevity. Socialization, as I shared in my main post, is non-negotiable. It's not just about avoiding "small dog syndrome" (which is real, trust me!), but ensuring your pup is confident and comfortable in various settings. A well-socialized pup is a joy to take anywhere, be it a quiet park or a pet-friendly cafe – definitely a trait you'd see in a well-adjusted celebrity companion! Ultimately, giving your small breed puppy the best start in life – whether you're a celebrity or not – boils down to consistent love, patient training, and understanding their unique needs. It’s about building that strong bond and setting them up for a happy, healthy life, filled with all the snuggles you can handle!

it's so unfortunate that so many people are uneducated and continue to support backyard breeders/unethical breeders/irresponsible pet owners. Ethical breeders breed for preservation of a SPECIFIC breed, OFA-CHIC health testing, and titling in conformation (dog shows) or sports/work. There are so many well-bred purebred alternatives to consider a Poodle mix such as Portuguese Water Dog, Barbet, Lagotto, Barbado da Terceira, bedlington terrier, Spanish water dog, poodle, Schapendoes, Mudi, Curly Coated Retriever, Airdale Terrier, Otter Hound, Coton de Tulear, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, Portuguese Sheep dog, Slavokian Wirehaired Pointer, Pumi, and etc. To ONLY ethical way to get a Poodle mix is rescuing.
