Book Review #9
Book Review # 9 ✨
I thoroughly enjoyed this one! This is book # 2 in the series that begins with Merry Little Meet Cute. I personally enjoyed this one more than the first one! The love story between Kallum and Winnie is beautiful and authentic. I appreciate how the book touches on purity culture and how women from religious backgrounds are often shamed when they begin to embrace their sexuality. Winnie is divorced and new to the dating scene. Kallum has a pattern of dating the same type of person over and over which leaves him feeling slightly used and unsatisfied. Their worlds collide and their love blossoms into playful banter, and spicy romance. The book touches on mild interpersonal conflicts, as well as how society perceives relationships and children born out of wedlock. It’s a great addition to the series and I love how the stories of the previous characters intertwine with Winnie and Kallum’s story. Great read!
One critique: I love a spicy love scene, but I would appreciate it if the authors chose better language when describing the scenes. Some of it is a little cringy/cheesy and slightly too vulgar for my taste.

When I first picked up 'A Holly Jolly Ever After' by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone, I was intrigued. As the second book in a series, I wondered if it would stand alone, and I can confidently say it absolutely does. While connections to 'Merry Little Meet Cute' are present, the heart of this story, Kallum and Winnie's journey, shines brightly on its own. What truly resonated with me in this novel was its courageous exploration of themes often glossed over in romance. Winnie's experience with divorce and navigating the dating world post-purity culture is depicted with such sensitivity and honesty. It made me reflect on societal expectations placed on women, particularly those from religious backgrounds, and the freedom found in embracing one's own sexuality on their own terms. It’s not just a backdrop; it’s central to Winnie’s character development and her growing confidence. Kallum's own journey, breaking free from a pattern of dating that left him unfulfilled, perfectly complements Winnie's path, creating a dynamic that feels both real and aspirational. The authors, Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone, masterfully weave these complex issues into a genuinely heartwarming and steamy romance. Beyond the emotional depth, the book delivers on playful banter and undeniable chemistry. The way Kallum and Winnie's love blossoms from their initial encounters into a deep, passionate connection is incredibly engaging. Their interactions felt natural, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. The authors don't shy away from addressing mild interpersonal conflicts or how society views relationships, including children born out of wedlock, adding layers of realism to the narrative. It’s not just a fluffy romance; it’s a story with substance that makes you think. Regarding the 4.3 out of 5 rating I've seen, I can completely understand why it's so highly regarded. This 'USA TODAY BESTSELLER' truly earns its accolades by offering more than just a typical love story. It’s a celebration of self-discovery, second chances, and finding love that truly accepts you, flaws and all. If you're looking for a holiday romance that offers both heartwarming moments and thought-provoking themes, 'A Holly Jolly Ever After' is a fantastic choice that I highly recommend.
