Day 56 of 75 Soft Challenge

A lot of things have happened in the last few days that have kept me from posting but I been keeping up with my challenge. I love working out I loved today going on a hike! It was definitely fun. Never been here before it’s not super close to where I live but close enough where I decided why not on a Sunday! Took my niece and nephew but not posting their pic on here! But they enjoyed it as much as I did.

Will I do it again? Yes I will on a weekend with more preparation and definitely I know now what to expect and what to bring for next time.

First aid kit- kiddo fell

Snacks- we had many stops

More water- they finished all the water and we weren’t done. #75softchallenge #75softjourney #letschat #wellness #lemon8diarychallenge

... Read moreYou know that feeling when an impromptu adventure just calls to you? That's exactly how my Day 56 hike on the 75 Soft Challenge felt! Sometimes, the best hikes aren't meticulously planned months in advance, but rather those 'flash hikes' you decide on a whim. Like my recent trip to Waterloo Lake, which turned into a fantastic 2.95-mile journey, though it took us a bit longer than expected – about 1 hour and 54 minutes, according to my workout tracking app screenshot! These spontaneous outings are amazing for mental well-being, but they also highlight the importance of being prepared even when you're being spontaneous. My experience definitely taught me a few things! For instance, we quickly realized we needed more water and snacks. It's easy to underestimate how thirsty or hungry you'll get, especially when you're having so much fun exploring a new place. A small, lightweight first-aid kit is also non-negotiable, as we learned when a little one took a tumble. So, for anyone else who loves a 'flash hike' or finds themselves embarking on an unexpected trail, here are a few things I now always try to keep handy or quickly check: The 'Always Ready' Mini-Pack: Even if you think you're just going for a short stroll, a small backpack with essentials can save the day. Think a reusable water bottle, a high-energy snack (like a granola bar or some trail mix), a compact first-aid kit (band-aids, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers), and your fully charged phone. You never know when a quick walk might turn into a longer exploration, and these basics make all the difference. Quick Route Check: Before heading out, especially to a new spot like Waterloo Lake was for me, a super-fast check of the trail length and elevation can prevent surprises. A quick glance at a map app can give you a general idea of what to expect and how much time you might need. I also make it a habit to let someone know where I'm headed, even if it's just a text message with the trail name. Capture the Moment, Fast: Part of the fun of a 'flash hike' is sharing the experience, right? Don't let documenting slow you down. I often rely on quick phone snaps, maybe a short video, and of course, my workout tracking app to log the miles and time. You don't need fancy gear—just capture the essence of the moment, whether it's a winding dirt path through sun-dappled trees or the serene view of a lake under a blue sky, like I captured on my last adventure. Embrace the Learning: My hike taught me that while spontaneity is great, a little foresight goes a long way. Instead of feeling frustrated about running out of water or needing a band-aid, I see these as valuable lessons. Every hike, planned or spontaneous, offers an opportunity to learn more about nature, about yourself, and about what you truly need to make the next adventure even better. These 'flash hikes' are truly wonderful. They break up the routine, offer a quick dose of nature, and keep you active. Just remember to pack smart, even when you're being spontaneous, and you'll be ready for whatever the trail throws your way. Happy hiking!
