Working as a dialysis nurse exposes one to many challenges beyond just the medical aspects. From my experience, the close contact with patients often leads to unexpected health concerns, as protective measures can sometimes fall short. It can be emotionally taxing when a patient you care for becomes seriously ill or passes away. The story of contracting a cough from a patient who later died is a somber reminder of the risks healthcare professionals face. Despite all precautions like using masks, gloves, and hygiene protocols, infections can still happen. I’ve witnessed how the hospital environment demands constant vigilance to prevent cross-contamination, especially in dialysis units where patients’ immune systems are often weakened. The emotional burden of losing a patient can weigh heavily on nurses, requiring support systems within the hospital and from colleagues. For those considering a career in nursing, especially in specialized areas like dialysis, it’s important to understand these risks and prepare mentally and physically. The job is as much about compassion and resilience as it is about technical skills. Ultimately, honoring patients who have passed and learning from these experiences helps improve care quality and strengthens the nurse-patient bond. May those we cared for rest peacefully as we continue our commitment to protect and heal others.

RN SCHOOL ESSENTIALS
Started my bridge program this summer semester and these are the essential I bought to get me started! I underestimated and I need more binders 😂. Has anyone ever tried the Apple cider vitamins for energy? We are closing out on week 3, entering week 4 which holds our first exam. Wish me luck.

My February schedule with using 2 days of PTO and not having to work any 3’s in a row. 💕 Being a nurse means having a schedule that actually works for your life. Instead of being stuck at a 9-5, clocking in five days a week with barely any time off, nurses get flexibility. We work fewer days, s

Writing Off Everything
as a Travel Nurse
"I'm W-2 through my agency — I can't write anything off." 😭 STOP saying this. The 2017 tax law changed W-2 employee deductions at the federal level. So technically — as W-2 only, yes, most of your professional expenses aren't deductible. But that's not the whole story.
