Utah’s natural hot springs

Okay, fellow adventurers! After my amazing Utah hot springs road trip, I wanted to share some extra tips and details to help you plan your own perfect soak. This state truly has some hidden gems, and knowing a little more before you go can make all the difference! Let's talk Meadow Hot Springs, which is quite close to Fillmore. It's truly a unique experience with three main pools, each offering a slightly different vibe. The water is so clear you can see the bottom! I'd highly recommend bringing water shoes, as the bottom can be a bit rocky and uneven. It's an undeveloped natural spot, so come prepared with your own water, snacks, and maybe even a trash bag to pack out everything you bring in. It's free and always open, but can get quite busy, especially on weekends or during peak seasons. Parking is usually available right off the dirt road leading to the springs. Homestead Crater in Midway is absolutely unlike anything else! Imagine swimming, snorkeling, or even scuba diving in a natural hot spring inside a 55-foot tall beehive-shaped limestone dome. It truly feels like a cave adventure! They offer hourly soaking sessions and also have changing rooms and rental equipment available. While there's an entrance fee, it's totally worth it for such a unique and memorable experience. This is definitely the spot to hit if you're looking for that 'Utah hot springs cave' or 'Midway crater hot spring' vibe, even though it's technically a crater rather than a traditional cave. If you're closer to Salt Lake City, Inlet Park Hot Springs (often called Saratoga Hot Springs) is a super convenient option. Located right on the shore of Utah Lake in Saratoga Springs, it's easily accessible and offers beautiful lake views while you soak. The water isn't as piping hot as some other springs, but it's a pleasant warm soak, especially if you're looking for something quick and easy from the SLC area. There are a few different pools, and it’s a popular spot for locals to unwind. Parking is usually straightforward, but it can fill up quickly. Fifth Water Hot Springs, also known as Diamond Fork Hot Springs, gave me those incredible 'cascading turquoise pools' vibes you see in pictures. While not a traditional 'cave' in the sense of Homestead Crater, some of the smaller, more secluded pools nestled amongst the rocks and trees can feel quite private and enclosed, almost like a natural grotto. It's a bit of a hike to get there (about 2.5 miles each way), so wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water for the trek. The reward of those amazing blue and green pools and the waterfall is absolutely worth the effort! No matter which beautiful hot spring you choose to visit, always remember to Leave No Trace. Pack out absolutely everything you pack in, and help keep these natural wonders pristine for everyone. Winter can be especially magical for hot springs, with snow on the ground creating a stunning contrast, but be extra prepared for colder temperatures outside the water. I always bring a large towel, extra water, and a waterproof bag for my phone and keys. And don't forget to check recent conditions before you go, as access and water levels can change.
