I canโt relax, even when nothings wrong๐
Canโt relax? ๐ซฉ
Whatโs wrong? Nothing! ๐ฅบ
Thatโs meโฆ Even when nothingโs wrong, I still canโt relax.
And I have tried EVERYTHING! Iโve made my favorite relaxing place (the living room) cozy to the max! I take self care days and try to meditate before I want my tv show. I even get cozy and cuddle up with my pup. I have general anxiety disorder which keeps me from unwinding, even when nothing is wrong, my mind is always racing. I always feel that pressure of needing everything to be done and to be perfect. And sometimes I have chemical imbalances happening which interfere with my brain. So even when โnothingโs wrongโ, my brain still canโt relax.
I can never relax and do nothing. If Iโm sitting on the coach Iโm working on my laptop or phone, talking on FaceTime or creating lists of errands and to dos.
Do you have moments where you canโt relax, even when nothings wrong? Is it hard for you to simply do nothing?

It's so incredibly relatable to feel that constant hum of needing to do something, even when your body screams for rest. I've been there, staring at my beautifully organized, cozy living room, trying to unwind with a Netflix show, but my mind is already drafting tomorrow's to-do list. The idea of truly 'doing nothing' often feels like a luxury I haven't earned, or worse, a sign of being unproductive. One thing I've learned on my own journey through this struggle is that 'doing nothing' doesn't always mean complete immobility. For many of us with racing thoughts or general anxiety, a sudden void of activity can actually increase discomfort. Sometimes, gentle, low-demand activities can act as a bridge to deeper relaxation. For instance, instead of just sitting, Iโve found that a warm, long bath while watching a favorite movie can be incredibly soothing. It engages just enough of my senses to keep my mind from spiraling into tasks, yet itโs undeniably restful. My furry companions, much like the dogs relaxing on the couch I've seen, are masters of the present moment. Observing my own dog sleeping peacefully often reminds me to slow down. Taking them for a relaxed walk โ not a power walk, but a 'sniffari' for them and a gentle stroll for me โ can be a wonderful way to ease into a state of doing nothing without feeling entirely idle. The simple act of walking the pup outdoors, breathing in fresh air, can ground me. Another strategy I've explored is setting boundaries around my relaxation time. Itโs not just about creating a cozy living room setup; itโs about mentally clocking out from responsibilities. I literally tell myself, 'For the next hour, my only job is to exist.' This can be tough, especially with the pressure to be constantly productive. I found that if I did need to perform a small, mindless task, like a bit of light cleaning or organizing, it sometimes helped me clear my head initially, almost like a warm-up before true relaxation. It's not about being productive, but about a gentle, rhythmic activity that doesn't demand much mental energy. For those moments when my mind absolutely refuses to quiet down, even with a Netflix binge or a good book, I've started practicing short bursts of mindful breathing. It's not formal meditation every time, but simply focusing on my breath for a few minutes. It helps to anchor me to the present, reminding me that right now, in this moment, there truly is nothing wrong. It's a small step towards accepting the quiet, rather than constantly fighting against it. Ultimately, learning to relax and truly embrace doing nothing is a personal journey, especially when anxiety is part of the picture. It often involves a mix of self-compassion, gentle redirection, and finding what works for your unique brain. Don't be afraid to experiment beyond the typical advice. Sometimes it's about reframing what 'doing nothing' means for you, and sometimes it's about allowing yourself the grace to simply be.

Yes, itโs literally my day off today and after today, I will be working a whole week straight and I still canโt relax. Most of the chores are done, but I just wanna get up and do stuff.
