🍎 Teacher Tip Tuesday 🍎

🍎 Teacher Tip Tuesday 🍎

If you've ever asked your child, "How was school?" and gotten the answer, "Fine," you're not alone!

Sometimes, changing the question can change the conversation.

Instead of asking how their day was, try asking questions that encourage your child to think, reflect, and share their experiences.

💙 What made you smile today?

📚 What was something new you learned?

😂 What made you laugh?

👫 Who did you spend time with today?

⭐ What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

These small conversations help build communication skills, strengthen your connection, and give you a glimpse into your child's world.

✨ Save this post to try after school this week, and let me know—which question gets the best response from your child?

... Read moreAs a parent, I have found that the usual "How was your day?" often results in a quick, uninformative "Fine," which can feel like a dead end to meaningful conversation. However, by adopting the kind of questions shared here—such as "What made you smile today?" or "What was something new you learned?"—I noticed a significant change not only in my child’s willingness to share but also in the depth of the stories and emotions they open up about. In my experience, questions that invite reflection or highlight positive moments encourage children to think back on their day more thoughtfully rather than responding with routine answers. For example, asking "Who did you spend time with today?" not only helps me learn about my child's social interactions but also gives insight into their friendships and emotional well-being. Another tip I’ve found helpful is to vary these questions depending on the day or context, keeping the conversations fresh and engaging. Sometimes, simply asking, "What made you laugh today?" can lead to funny anecdotes that lighten the mood at home and bring us closer. Most importantly, these questions build communication skills in children by encouraging them to articulate experiences and feelings, which benefits their overall learning and social development. Small daily conversations started this way can create lasting bonds and foster an environment where your child feels heard and valued. I recommend trying these questions consistently after school and observing which ones elicit the best responses from your child. It’s a simple but powerful way to strengthen your connection and support your child’s learning and emotional growth in a natural, caring way.
