Hey everyone! So, as you know from my recent posts, I’m deep into my personal journey of drawing everyday for 365 days. It’s incredibly challenging, but also so rewarding to see the progress. Today marks Day 5, and while I almost forgot to record yesterday's drawing (it happens, right?), I’m back on track and excited to share more. This whole process has really got me thinking about how we share our stories, especially for those of us in the FTM community. One thing that often gets overlooked, but is so important, is the caption we choose for our posts. Whether it’s an artwork like mine, a photo documenting your transition, or just a daily thought, the right FTM caption can make all the difference. It's not just about getting likes; it's about connecting, expressing, and sometimes, even educating. When I’m thinking about what to write for my own art pieces, especially those that might hint at my FTM identity or journey, I try to keep a few things in mind. First, authenticity is key. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Your unique voice is what will resonate with people. For example, if I'm sharing a drawing I did on a day I felt particularly affirmed, my caption might reflect that joy: "Feeling seen and creative today. Each line is part of my journey. #FTMArtist #TransJoy". Secondly, consider the purpose of your caption. Are you looking for support? Are you celebrating a milestone? Are you just sharing a piece of your life? If you're sharing a progress photo from your transition, you might use something like: "One step at a time! So proud of how far I’ve come. What’s your biggest non-scale victory lately? #FTMJourney #TransVisibility". If it’s a more reflective post about the struggles, perhaps: "Some days are harder than others, but I keep pushing. Sending love to anyone else feeling it today. You’re not alone. #FTMLife #Resilience". I’ve also found that asking questions in your captions can be a great way to spark engagement. It turns your post into a conversation starter. For instance, with my 365-day drawing challenge, I could ask: "What are you creating today? Let me know in the comments!" or "What FTM-related topics would you love to see explored through art?" Sometimes, a little humor goes a long way too! Don't be afraid to be witty or lighthearted. For example, "My testosterone levels aren't the only thing growing, my beard game is too! (and maybe my drawing skills, haha). #FTMHormones #BeardGoals". Finally, don't forget to use relevant hashtags! They really help people find your content. Beyond the basics like #ftm and #lgbtq, think about more specific ones like #transgenderartist, #genderaffirmingcare, #transmenofig, or even hashtags related to your art style. It's all about building your community. This drawing everyday for 365 days project has become more than just an art challenge; it's a daily reflection on my identity and how I want to present myself to the world. Each drawing, each caption, is a small piece of that bigger picture. So, whether you're an artist, an activist, or just living your truth, remember that your words have power. Use them to tell your story proudly!
